An opportunity to play your part – We’re on the lookout for a talented Full-Stack Software Engineer to join British Gas Services & Solutions and help shape the future of energy technology. In this role, you’ll be at the heart of designing, developing, and delivering innovative software solutions that span both frontend and backend systems. You’ll collaborate with an incredible mix of scientists, researchers, technicians, and fellow engineers to create secure, scalable, and cloud-native applications that power our digital energy ecosystem. Responsibilities:
- Craft responsive, intuitive frontend interfaces using modern frameworks like React or Angular.
- Build robust, scalable applications with languages such as Python and Java.
- Design and consume APIs using gRPC, GraphQL, and REST.
- Architect and deploy cloud-native solutions on AWS or Azure, leveraging services for compute, storage, and security.
- Contribute to system design that aligns with best practices and business goals.
- Work alongside scientists, researchers, and technicians to turn complex requirements into practical solutions.
- Mentor graduate engineers and champion engineering excellence.
- Thrive in an Agile environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality features.
- Perform code reviews and ensure adherence to standards.
- Explore and apply skills in 2D and 3D web graphics for interactive visualisations and advanced UI experiences.
What we need from you:
- Experience with modern frontend frameworks like React or Angular.
- Strong backend development skills in Python and/or Java.
- Ability to design and consume APIs (gRPC, REST, GraphQL).
- Hands-on experience with AWS or Azure and cloud-native architectures.
- Skilled in designing secure, scalable, and maintainable systems.
- Familiarity with automated testing and DevOps tools (Git, GitHub, Terraform, Pulumi).
- Interest or experience in 2D/3D web graphics.
- Bonus: Knowledge of real-time data, big data tools (Kafka, Spark), Agile practices, AI/ML, and IoT.
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
