One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer.

We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.

About your team: At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We’ve been powering the UK’s homes and businesses for over 200 years – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon footprint.

We're looking for a Strategic Initiatives Analyst to join our Centrica Home strategy team, where you'll play a vital role in shaping the future of how we serve our customers. You'll be at the heart of identifying, analysing, and driving forward strategic opportunities that will help us deliver exceptional value to millions of homes across the UK. This team is responsible for setting the strategic vision, ambition and direction for the business and linking it with the wider Centrica corporate strategy. The team is also responsible for translating the strategic and financial priorities into business plans, performance measures and investment allocation that will be used to track delivery and measure success.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting the strategy analysis and recommendations for priority areas, before translating them to concepts and then rapidly validating them, working directly with the business and the wider strategy team.

Key accountabilities:
  • Support the development and execution of strategic initiatives by conducting comprehensive market analysis, competitive intelligence, and business case development.
  • Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform critical business decisions and help us stay ahead in the evolving energy, services and HEM landscape.
  • Monitor industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitive dynamics that could impact Centrica Home's strategic position.
  • Provide regular updates on market developments and assess their implications for our business strategy.
  • Support the identification and evaluation of potential merger, acquisition, and strategic partnership opportunities that align with Centrica Home's growth strategy.
  • Take ownership of specific strategic opportunities, from hypothesis setting to validation, working closely with cross-functional teams.
  • Size opportunities, compare choices, identify risks, and recommend course corrections to keep projects on track and aligned with our strategic goals.
  • Support the 5-year strategic and financial planning exercise, providing strategic initiatives input, market sizing research.
  • Maintain the core BU models across UK Residential Energy, UK Services and Solutions, Hive and Ireland Energy and Services.
  • Work closely with Centrica Group strategy teams to ensure alignment between Centrica Home initiatives and broader Group strategic objectives.
  • Contribute to Group-wide strategic planning processes, share insights across business units, and help identify synergies and cross-business opportunities that maximise value creation.
Here’s who we’re looking for:
  • Proven experience in corporate strategy or management consulting.
  • Understanding of the Energy and Services markets and regulatory environment.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills and collaboration/facilitation skills.
  • Strong financial modelling.
  • Track record of using data and analysis to size benefits and develop roadmaps.
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity.
  • Emotional intelligence and empathy.
Competencies:
  • Able to form hypothesis and develop frameworks to validate.
  • See the big picture – understand how initiative ties in with our vision and mission.
  • Good understanding of trends, segment characteristics and competitor environment.
  • Able to quantify tangible benefits with analysis and informed assumptions.
  • Obsession with customer need and the ‘how to win’ (vs. what the business can ‘lift and shift’).
  • Futureproof thinking – consider trends and how assumptions might evolve in next 5-10 years.
  • Pro-actively identify key blockers, their impact and how to resolve them.
  • Can structure and lead small workshops.
  • Adapts to quickly overcome roadblocks with limited guidance.
  • Can identify operational, tech and commercial enablers and blockers.
  • Can engage with senior managers in a clear, concise and actionable way.

Why should you apply? We’re not a perfect place – but we’re a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That’s why we’ve designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.

If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority. Help us, help you. We would love for you to share any information about yourself throughout our recruitment process so that we can better understand you and help shape your journey.
