Join us, be part of more. We're so much more than an energy company. We're a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We're energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that's energising a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn't rely on fossil fuels whilst living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That's why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently - we do it all. We make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We've been powering the UK's homes and businesses for over 200 years - but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We're making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we're making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon-footprint.
Your mission is simple - help us mend it by keeping kitchens running by diving headfirst into the world of appliance repair. Who you are, where you come from, or what you look like does not matter. What does matter is your drive, curiosity and passion for learning a hands-on trade. If you bring the motivation, we will bring the opportunity.
Kitchens are the heart of the home, and the appliances inside them keep everyday life moving. As a Trainee Kitchen Appliance Engineer, you will be the person customers rely on when things go wrong, getting ovens heating, fridges cooling and washing machines spinning again. You will train at a state-of-the-art centre, gaining practical experience, expert guidance and an industry-recognised qualification. With the support of experienced engineers, you will soon be out in your local area making a real difference in people's homes.
This is a sleeves-up, hands-on role where no two days are the same. You will solve real problems for real people, combining technical skill with great customer service. If you are excited by learning a trade, building a long-term career and helping customers with confidence and care, this could be the perfect place to start.
Here's what's in it for you:
- A starting salary of £28,090 which will continue to rise as you hit specific milestones during your traineeship.
- Once you have completed the full programme and aftercare support your salary will increase to £40,133 with bonus and add ons on top.
- We also offer London Weighting Allowance ranging from £4,160 to £6,240 (dependant on location) for living or starting your day within London.
- An expensed van for you to use for work, including an EV charge point where applicable & charge card.
We're looking for people that:
- Show strong technical aptitude, whether developed through study, practical experience, or a passion for tinkering, fixing and understanding how things work.
- Are passionate about delivering brilliant customer service and creating positive experiences for customers.
- Have a full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points.
- Are able to commit to a 7-week training programme, primarily based in Wakefield, taking place within your first four months. Any required travel and accommodation will be fully covered.
We're currently looking for talented people in:
- Scotland: Edinburgh
- Wales: South Valleys & Bridgend
- South West England: Weymouth & Dorchester
- South East England: Luton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Cambridge, Amersham & Aylesbury
- London: Camden & Kingsbury
Why should you apply? We're not a perfect place - but we're a people place. Our priority is supporting all of the different realities our people face. Life is about so much more than work. We get it. That's why we've designed our total rewards to give you the flexibility to choose what you need, when you need it, making sure that you and your family are supported not only financially, but physically and emotionally too.
If you're full of energy, fired up about sustainability, and ready to craft not only a better tomorrow, but a better you, then come and find your purpose in a team where your voice matters, your growth is non-negotiable, and your ambitions are our priority.
Help us, help you. We would love for you to share any information about yourself throughout our recruitment process so that we can better understand you and help shape your journey.
