Join us, be part of more. We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising how we power the planet. We’re energisers. One team of 21,000 colleagues that energises a greener, fairer future by creating an energy system that doesn’t rely on fossil fuels while living our powerful commitment to igniting positive change in our communities. Here, you can find more purpose, more passion, and more potential. That’s why working here is #MoreThanACareer. We do energy differently – we do it all: we make it, store it, move it, sell it, and mend it.
About your team: At British Gas, our mission is to sell it and mend it. We’ve been powering the UK’s homes and businesses for over 200 years – but supplying energy is just part of what we do. We’re making the UK greener and more energy efficient, getting closer to Net Zero. By using clever tech like thermostats, heat pumps, solar panels and EV chargers, we’re making it cheaper and easier for our customers to reduce their carbon footprint.
About your role: Your mission is to help us mend it: Smart meters are the in‑home technology opening the door to a greener, more sustainable future. By sending data in real time, they help customers see exactly how much energy they’re using – in pounds and pence – giving them the confidence to make informed choices and save money. As a Metering apprentice, you’ll learn far more than how to install and repair meters. You’ll build the skills to explain, reassure and support customers, making sure they understand how to get the very best from their energy use. At our award‑winning academies, you’ll be supported every step of the way, absorbing expert knowledge, developing hands‑on skills and earning recognised qualifications. Working alongside experienced engineers who coach and encourage you, you’ll soon be visiting homes in your local area, helping people feel comfortable with new technology and more in control of their energy. It’s a role where your technical ability matters – but so does your curiosity, your people skills and your desire to make a positive difference.
Skills you need to succeed:
- 4 GCSEs, ideally including Maths & English, at grade C/4 or above or a recognised equivalent
- A carefully considered CV that shows you have a genuine passion for learning a trade, are mechanically or technically minded, and love providing awesome customer service
- A full UK driving licence with no more than 6 points
- Availability to attend training at one of our four UK academies – with accommodation and travel provided if needed.
