Our garden centres are home to a huge variety of retail departments, from plants and gardening to gifts and home, providing customers with a unique shopping experience. Our retail teams pride themselves on offering expert advice along with friendly service.

The successful candidate should have proven managerial experience and be physically fit, as this is a very hands-on role that may require some heavy lifting. The Deputy Manager will oversee staff training and performance, ensuring a professional workplace culture while fostering a supportive, positive, and safe environment for all.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Strong horticultural knowledge (plants, growing, pests)
  • Proven retail management and leadership abilities
  • Budgeting, stock control, and merchandising skills
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on, proactive, and able to work indoors and outdoors
  • Flexibility (weekend work common) with days and hours worked to meet business needs

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting the Garden Centre Manager
  • Ensuring smooth day-to-day running
  • Upholding high standards
  • Handling sales, stock, and displays
  • Driving customer satisfaction, as per the Landscape Technology Group
  • Providing coaching and performance feedback; managing daily workflow

What we Offer:

  • No evening work, split shifts, or unsociable hours; year-round business
  • Security of working in a well-established expanding family business & the associated benefits
  • Rate of pay negotiable, dependent upon skills and experience
  • 50% meal discount at any BGC restaurant & 20% discount at any BGC store; additionally, discount rates available for Woodthorpe Leisure Park

If you would like to join our family-run business and bring your ideas and talents to our fast-growing company and forward-thinking team, we want to hear from you.
