Altrad Sparrows is recruiting for a Hydraulic Engineer in its Drives and Controls Department, based at Bridge of Don, Aberdeen, UK. The company is a specialist lifting and mechanical handling contractor that delivers equipment, technology and integrated engineering services to the global energy industry. The main purpose of the role is to apply engineering knowledge and expertise, build and maintain relationships, financial / contract management, quality orientation, safety leadership and continuous development in all aspects of fluid power service activities.
Main Responsibilities
Project Engineering
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for delivering assigned projects and supporting the delivery of projects encompassing, but not limited to, the following:
- Administration of assigned project files
- Liaison with clients and subcontractors
- Preparation of calculations, work procedures and risk assessments
- Work to recognised quality standards.
- Development and management of project schedules
- Completion of purchase requisitions
- Arrange equipment dispatch and transportation.
- Lead site / offshore visits as required.
- Completion of close out reports and technical documentation.
- Proactive financial control of assigned projects, and review invoice drafts
- Ensure major risks associated with the delivery of engineering projects is fully understood and effectively mitigated and managed.
- Review of work produced by others, providing feedback, and identifying corrective actions.
- Actively provide technical guidance and mentoring to others to promote competence and ensure successful delivery of projects.
The incumbent must adopt a co-operative attitude towards being assigned alternative or additional duties to that which they are primarily employed.
Technical Duties
- Identify and specify hydraulic system components such as hoses tubing and fittings.
- Identify and specify hydraulic circuit components such as valves, pumps, motors, actuators, cylinders etc.
- Apply knowledge of hydraulic circuit configuration in a range of applications including but not limited to offshore pedestal cranes
- Ensure best practice in all areas of hydraulic system design, construction, testing, installation and commissioning.
- Determine customer requirements and objectives and assist in developing specifications for projects / systems to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Apply industry standards and directives in delivering projects to the required specification.
- Oversee manufacture and function testing of new, modified and refurbished equipment.
- Preparation of Factory Acceptance Test procedures, running FAT with client witness.
- Compilation of technical specifications and documentation packages.
Business Promotion & Establishment
- To carry out a Project Engineer function within the Engineering & Operations Department providing a support function to the establishment in all aspect of cranes, lifting and support service activities.
- Contribute to the establishment sales effort, through direct client contact and meetings, with particular focus on target customers as defined within the establishment business plan.
- When undertaking visits to site or offshore installations, promote and maintain effective communications with Client representatives and Sparrows Offshore personnel.
Engineering Development
The position requires the incumbent to assist in the development, compliance and continuous improvement of engineering processes and the engineering development system.
Process Development
Assist with the development of team systems and working methods.
Personnel Development
- It is expected that the incumbent will attend, and actively participate in, all training provided by company, whether internally or externally provided.
- Carry out continuing professional development necessary to maintain and enhance competence in own area of responsibility.
Meetings and Reporting
- Actively contribute to meetings and discussions.
- Report on financial and operation progress of assigned projects to line management.
Liaison
- Build and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with customers, sub-contractors, management, team members and other colleagues.
- Work co-operatively and productively with others to ensure planning, technical integrity and successful completion of projects.
HSEQ Responsibilities
- It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Companyโs HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System. The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.
- The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them. The incumbent is also responsible for the health and safety arrangements of subordinates (if any) and for any persons visiting them while on the Company premises.
Qualifications And Experience
The position requires the incumbent to have the following qualifications and/or experience however this is not exhaustive or mandatory.
Essential
- HND, BSc or BEng (Hons) within relevant discipline or time served with relative experience.
- Previous experience with cranes / heavy plant.
- Good technical writing skills, and proficient use of MS Office applications (i.e. Word, Excel etc)
- Excellent communication skill to enable effective liaison with clients, vendors and other members of staff.
- Careful and meticulous professional and a motivated self-starter.
- Effective in dealing with commercial and management aspects of the role
Desirable
To have attained or working towards a professional accreditation with an appropriate institute.
