Machining Apprentice (5) - CMP Products

As a Machining Apprentice at CMP, part of the British Engines group of businesses, you will be trained to carry out a range of engineering-based activities, developing hands-on skills and experience as you start your career in mechanical engineering. The apprenticeship is a 4-year programme specialising in mechanical engineering. During your first two years you will work towards achieving a Level 3 Diploma in Machining, which will require attendance at college one day per week. The remaining 4 days will be spent in our manufacturing facilities in Cramlington gaining hands-on experience.

During your apprenticeship, you will be supported by experienced mentors who will ensure you are provided with the support and guidance to be successful.

What you’ll be doing:

• Learning all aspects of CNC machines, including Rotary machines and CNC Sliding Head machines.
• How to set-up, operate and adjust/edit equipment settings as applicable to the machine tool being used.
• Read and/or edit CNC programmes.
• Measure and check components and make adjustments to the equipment/programme to ensure components meet the required specification.
• Understand the importance of Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
• Use a variety of measuring equipment to ensure all inspection requirements are completed.
• Apply a variety of removal and shaping techniques such as boring, cutting, drilling, milling, grinding, and welding.
• Understand how businesses operate and the interrelationships between departments and activities.

Who we’re looking for:

To apply, you must have achieved GCSEs in English and Maths (A*-C/ 9-4) and have a genuine desire to learn and develop within a manufacturing, engineering environment. We’re looking for someone who has effective time management and problem-solving skills, as well as strong communication. You must be a team player but able to work on your own initiative when needed. Working hours are 37 per week.
