British Engines is a leading engineering group with a long heritage in the North East of England since 1922. Employing approximately 1,200 people, our eight businesses design, manufacture, assemble, test and service leading products and components for a wide range of industries including the renewables, digital, defence, power, nuclear, aerospace, robotics, oil and gas, chemical, marine, construction and agriculture sectors.
We’re looking for a Power BI Developer to accelerate how we deliver management information, KPI reporting, workflow automation, and collaborative business solutions across the business. This role is centred on developing high-quality dashboards, alongside supporting data extraction, transformation and modelling in collaboration with our Systems team. You’ll play a key role in helping us move from static reporting to scalable, trusted, self-service insight. It’s a great opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical delivery with business engagement and wants to shape modern business systems capability within a growing industrial group.
What you’ll be doing:
- Design, build and maintain high-quality KPI dashboards and management reports using Power BI.
- Work with business stakeholders to understand reporting requirements and translate these into effective data models and visualisations.
- Improve report usability, performance and visual design to support adoption across operational and management users.
- Ensure reporting solutions are accurate, secure, well-structured and supportable.
Business Engagement and Delivery:
- Engage with stakeholders across the business and shared service functions to gather requirements and prioritise demand.
- Explain technical solutions clearly to non-technical audiences.
- Contribute to solution design across reporting, data, collaboration and automation.
- Produce documentation including process notes, technical specifications and user guidance.
- Support testing, training, release and handover activities.
- Work closely with the wider Business Systems team to ensure solutions align with the overall systems landscape and strategic direction.
Who we’re looking for:
We’re looking for an experienced Power BI Developer with a strong track record of building dashboards, reports and data models that support business decision-making. You’ll bring solid SQL skills and a good understanding of data modelling principles, including how to structure data for performance, usability and scalability. You’ll also have experience working closely with business stakeholders, confidently gathering requirements and translating these into clear, effective reporting solutions.
You’ll have strong technical capability in Power BI, including Power Query, DAX and visual design, alongside a good understanding of data quality, validation and reconciliation. With a naturally analytical and problem-solving mindset, you’ll be comfortable managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality outputs in a structured and organised way. Clear communication is key in this role, so you’ll be able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, supported by strong documentation skills and attention to detail.
We’re particularly interested in someone who is curious and improvement-focused, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical delivery and business need. You’ll be comfortable working independently while also collaborating with a wider team, bringing a pragmatic, methodical and quality-conscious approach. You’ll also be motivated to help increase capability and drive adoption of data and reporting across the business.
Experience working with ERP data (ideally IFS), or with a variety of data sources such as Excel, APIs and flat files, would be beneficial, as would an understanding of reporting security and access control. A degree, HND or equivalent experience in a relevant discipline is expected, and while Microsoft certifications are advantageous, we place greater value on practical, hands-on experience and a strong delivery mindset.
Success in this role will be reflected in the delivery of high-quality, trusted reporting, increased adoption of Power BI across the business, and a reduction in manual reporting through effective automation. This position will be on a full time, permanent basis. The hours of work are 35 per week, Monday to Friday. A full UK driving licence is essential.
