About the role

British Cycling is looking for a Social Media Manager to join our marketing team in Manchester. Sitting within the Brand and Engagement directorate, this role plays a vital part in shaping how British Cycling shows up across social media. You’ll translate our wider content strategy into platform-specific social plans, ensuring the right content reaches the right audience at the right time. Working closely with the Content Lead, you’ll help deliver insight-led social media activity across our three core channels: British Cycling, the Tour of Britain, and the Great Britain Cycling Team (GBCT). You’ll also line manage and develop our Social Media Officer, supporting their growth while ensuring high-quality day-to-day output. From grassroots participation stories and social impact programmes to the drama of Britain’s biggest races and the success of our elite riders, you’ll help shape the voice of cycling across the country.

What will you be doing?

  • Leading the planning and execution of social media activity across British Cycling, Tour of Britain and Great Britain Cycling Team channels
  • Translating the wider content strategy into platform-specific social media plans, formats and publishing rhythms
  • Providing expert guidance on social output to maximise reach and engagement
  • Line managing and developing the Social Media Officer, supporting performance, wellbeing and professional growth
  • Overseeing day-to-day social delivery and community management, ensuring consistent quality, tone and responsiveness
  • Supporting the Content Lead with monthly reporting, analysis and insight, turning performance data into clear recommendations
  • Working closely with colleagues across Marketing, Events, GBCT, Commercial and Sport & Participation teams to deliver joined-up social campaigns
  • Identifying opportunities to innovate across social media, testing new formats, features and platforms
  • Supporting live coverage of major events, working flexibly across some evenings and weekends (with time off in lieu)

About you

Essential

  • 3+ years experience delivering and managing social media activity across multiple platforms.
  • Strong understanding of platform best practice, audience behaviour and content optimisation.
  • Confident using analytics and reporting tools to inform decisions and measure performance.
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

Desirable

  • Experience line managing or mentoring colleagues.
  • Experience working on live sport or major events.
  • Experience contributing to strategic reporting or performance dashboards.
  • Knowledge of cycling or the wider sporting landscape.
