Base pay range: £45,000 per annum

Contract: Full-time, fixed term until middle of August 2027

Location: Manchester (hybrid) – minimum 2 days per week in Manchester office, regional travel as required.

About British Cycling

In 2027 the UK will host the Grand Depart of both the Tour De France and the Tour De France Femme, with Zwift integration. The event will support social impact programmes addressing inactivity, mental wellbeing, economic growth, and community support. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) – Grand Depart GB 2027 – will oversee delivery and public funding, partnering with the UK government bodies. British Cycling will manage the operational, business, social impact, volunteer, and consumer-facing functions.

Role Overview

You will join the Operations Team to focus on race route planning for selected stages of the Tour de France Grand Depart 2027 and/or Tour de France Femmes with Zwift Grand Depart 2027.

Responsibilities:

  • Work in detail across all aspects of the event route to ensure a safe closed road racing route is provided.
  • Lead creation of route management and supervision plans, including marshal allocation and volunteer location identification.
  • Work with key partners to design required resource levels for route management.
  • Coordinate with Emergency and Critical Services to integrate their operations into event planning.
  • Develop scope for stewarding, barriers and other safety and security provisions.
  • Create route contingency plans with policing authorities, highways authorities and suppliers.
  • Update and manage documents and communications for the event weekend management plan.
  • Collaborate with the Highways and Transport Team for integrated route management, spectator travel, and wider traffic planning.
  • Act as the main point of contact on route matters for local authorities responsible for your routes and stages.
  • Support delivery partners through collaboration with Operations and Programme teams.
  • Provide flexible additional support across the project as directed by the Race Route Lead or Operations Director.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience managing closed‑road routes for large, complex sports events (cycling, marathon/road‑running, triathlon).
  • Demonstrated ability to partner with Local Authorities, Emergency Services, Transport Authorities and other stakeholders to secure road closures and highway amendments.
  • Understanding of staffing, infrastructure, and contracts required for a fully closed road race route.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, capable of overseeing complex operations and coordinating multiple workstreams.
  • Experience working under pressure with tight time‑frames in public and private sector collaborations.
  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.
