The British Council in Tunisia is seeking 2 dedicated and responsible individuals to support the delivery of its Young Learner programme at the Teaching Centre. This role plays a vital part in ensuring a safe, well-supervised, and welcoming environment for children and young people, while upholding the highest standards of child protection and child safety in line with British Council policies and procedures. The postholder will also provide a first point of response for customer enquiries within the Teaching Centre, contributing to a positive experience for learners and parents alike.
At our centre, nearly 2,000 students attend English classes each term. Most of these learners are young people aged 6 to 18 who study at the centre for approximately three hours per week. The centre has a well-established Child Protection strategy supported by documented procedures that guide the supervision and care of children. Strong engagement with parents is a core part of our approach, achieved through induction packs, parent meetings, termly reports, and the availability of one-to-one meetings when requested.
This role offers the opportunity to contribute directly to a trusted international organisation while supporting the learning, safety, and wellbeing of young people in an educational setting.
Role Accountabilities
The role focuses on effective supervision, accurate administration, and clear communication with parents, in line with British Council policies and child protection standards.
- The postholder will supervise young learners before classes, during breaks, and at the end of sessions, including monitoring public areas such as stairs and toilets.
- They will ensure learners leave the premises quietly and safely, with particular attention to children aged 6 to 11, who must always be collected by their designated adult.
- The role includes assisting unwell learners, supervising fire drills, supporting teachers when required, and always using English unless Arabic translation is necessary.
- Maintaining good behaviour is essential. The postholder will ensure learners remain in permitted areas, avoid causing disturbance, and carry the required green ID cards when leaving the premises during breaks or after classes.
- Administrative responsibilities include distributing and managing registers, reports, certificates, badges, and authorised carer forms at the start and end of term, carrying out register checks during the term, and supporting young learner events, parent meetings, and displays as directed by the Duty Officer.
- The role also involves regular communication with parents, including following up on absences, contacting parents who are late collecting their children, informing parents if a learner becomes unwell, answering general non-teaching queries, and acting as an interpreter when required.

- Contract Type: this is a permanent, part time position, work patterns: Tue -Sat and Wed to Sun
- Salary: 670 TND per month
