The British Council Spain operates a network of teaching centres across the country, delivering high-quality English language teaching to approximately 30,000 students each year. In addition to our teaching centres, we operate the British Council's only school in Madrid, manage a significant exams operation, support English language learning nationwide, and deliver impactful programmes in arts, education, and society. Our students come from diverse backgrounds, with the majority being young learners in early years, primary, and secondary education, alongside a substantial adult learner population. In this role, you will:

• Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging English language lessons that meet the needs of a wide range of learners.
• Adapt teaching materials and methodologies to accommodate different learning styles and ensure that lessons are relevant, effective, and learner-centred.
• Make full use of British Council resources to help students achieve their learning goals and maximise their progress.
• Monitor and assess learner performance, providing regular and constructive feedback both in writing and face-to-face.
• Support students throughout their learning journey, encourage learner autonomy through appropriate homework and self-study activities, and engage with parents and students through individual meetings when required.
• Collaborate closely with colleagues, maintain positive relationships with learners and customers, and support the wider objectives and activities of the British Council.
• Complete teaching-related administrative tasks accurately and on time, including class registers, course records, and other operational duties.

The role requires a strong commitment to professional development. You will actively participate in continuous professional development activities to maintain high standards of teaching and learning and to ensure that your practice reflects current developments in the field of English Language Teaching. You will also contribute to building meaningful cultural connections by helping students develop a greater understanding of contemporary UK culture and society.

Qualifications & Experience

Essentials:

• University degree.
• Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (Cambridge CELTA) or Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (Trinity TESOL) certification.
• A minimum of 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels from young learners through to adults.
• Proficiency in English equivalent to a Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) C2 level.

Desirables:

• Recognised diploma in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) i.e. Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (DELTA).

Important Information:

• Start date: October 2026 (next academic year).
• Location: Palma. Teachers may be expected to work in more than one British Council centre.
• Contracted hours per week: This role is offered on a part-time basis, with a contractual commitment of 3-10 hours per week.
• Monthly gross salary: The monthly gross salary for Teachers Level 1 ranges from approximately €238,50 for a 3-hour weekly contract to €1,080 for a 15-hour weekly contract.
• Proof of Identity & Right to Work: Locally Recruited - Applications are welcomed from candidates currently in this location with a natural right to work.
• Contract type: Indefinite.
• Annual leave: 45 working days per year of work, in accordance with British Council policies and standards.
