Role context
As a Core Teacher, you will support British Council’s global English strategy by:
- delivering teaching to the highest standards of ELT
- enhancing British Council’s reputation as a world authority in ELT
- continuing professional development and sharing of best practices
Main Accountabilities:
Teaching
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, considering individual learning needs and modes of learning.
- Ensure teaching meets British Council Global Teaching Standards, as well as organizational and learner expectations.
- Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout their learning, actively promoting learner autonomy and progress.
- Engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, maintaining British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
Teaching Centre Activities
- Support teaching centre’s activities and British Council plans.
- Attend staff meetings and contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials, and related services to meet students’ needs, working as part of the teaching team.
- Support local marketing and promotional strategies, and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service through dissemination of information and communication with students.
- Complete teaching-related administrative tasks to specified standards and uphold professional responsibilities and values, reflecting British Council’s values and behaviors.
Customers & Stakeholders
- Maintain good relationships with customers and colleagues.
- Ensure customers are aware of British Council’s cultural relations role and help develop opportunities for students to understand the UK and its values, participating in intercultural interactions both in and out of class.
Compliance
- Ensure guidelines and policies related to Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, Special Educational Needs, and Health and Safety are applied and upheld.

- Ensure EDI considerations are integrated into lesson planning and delivery, and in interactions with customers and colleagues.
Person specification
Qualifications
- Cambridge CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL
- Recognized diploma in EFL, e.g., DELTA or Trinity Diploma

Successful completion of an initial TEFL qualification, e.g., CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL or equivalent, is required.
Experience in teaching relevant age groups:
- Early Years (2-5 years, 400+ hours)
- Primary (6-10 years, 400+ hours)
- Lower Secondary (11-14 years, 800+ hours)
- Upper Secondary (15-17 years, 400+ hours)
- University/Vocational students (18-25 years, 400+ hours)
