The Education Manager leads the delivery of education programmes in Northern Ireland, building international partnerships and increasing participation across schools, further education, higher education, and non-formal education sectors. The role manages key stakeholder relationships, supports strategic planning and income generation, and ensures the successful delivery of high-quality, inclusive education projects aligned with British Council objectives and global education priorities.

Role Accountabilities

  • Strategy and Planning: Contributes to development of the Northern Ireland Education strategy and annual plan, aligned with the global Education/Tertiary Education strategy and the Cultural Engagement plan for Northern Ireland. Supports development of internal relationships across the UK Region and Cultural Engagement teams.
  • Leadership and Management: Manages a range of agreed education activities day to day, ensuring global standards of programme and contract management are achieved. Contributes technical expertise to the design of Education/Tertiary Education programmes and contracts.
  • Business Development: Contributes to business development and income generation, using networking opportunities to develop contacts with potential funders, clients and partners in Northern Ireland.
  • Stakeholder Management and Market Positioning: Manages and builds mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders in Northern Ireland. Demonstrates expertise on behalf of the British Council.
  • Market Knowledge, Research and Insight: Builds market knowledge and insight about the broad education context in Northern Ireland, sharing this internally and externally.
  • Commercial and/or Financial Management: Produces business performance reports, including income, cost management, results and portfolio impact.
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion: Actively contributes to an inclusive and anti-racist organisational culture, ensuring people feel valued and treated equitably.

Knowledge & Experience

Education

  • Essential: Degree and/or equivalent experience.
  • Desirable: Project management or equivalent qualification or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • Essential: In-depth understanding of the education sectors of Northern Ireland and the UK, and of bilateral priorities. Experience of delivering externally funded projects or programmes.
  • Desirable: Ability to analyse relevant equality issues and identify opportunities to address these in the portfolio.
