Salary: £30,839 plus £3,300 London Market Allowance for those based in the London area only.

The Team: This role sits within the Cultural Engagement which brings together our portfolio of work in arts, education, English, and research. Our portfolio is delivered through a set of globally led programmes, one of which is Alumni UK, the global network for people from around the world who have studied in the UK.

Every year, more than 400,000 international students choose to study in the UK – a number which is further increased by those who take UK higher education qualifications online, via transnational education, or who study for a semester in the UK. The Alumni UK programme aims to strengthen the global network of UK alumni, providing opportunities for personal and professional development, for networking and for showcasing examples of alumni achievement.

The Role: The Community and Content Manager will play a pivotal role in managing the online community of international UK alumni. You will lead on the ongoing development of our current online collaboration platform and work with the Alumni UK team to engage with alumni through content development, training opportunities and other.

Accountabilities:

  • Operational delivery
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day management of the British Council’s Alumni UK online platform (working with external provider to fix bugs, add new features etc)
  • Be the first point of contact for enquiries from alumni via the Alumni UK mailbox, ensuring enquiries are dealt with accordingly or redirected. Enquiries could cover technical access issues, reporting of inappropriate content, safeguarding matters etc.
  • Build a vibrant online community of international UK alumni from all around the world by actively encouraging engagement and collaboration between alumni
  • Work closely with colleagues across the British Council global network to ensure promotion of events and collect content from other programmes. Ensure there are adequate administrators for the alumni platform and that sufficient training is provided.
  • Continuous improvement and development of the Alumni UK platform
    • Work with the Programme Development Manager to scope out future developments for the alumni platform (this will include the lengthy procurement of a fit for purpose Alumni collaboration platform).
    • Project manage the introduction of new features and functionality, working with the technical provider and communicating these changes to the platform users; Alumni, UK HE universities and British Council UK and global staff.
    • Explore new and creative ways to engage international UK alumni online. Test and implement these initiatives with the alumni network on an ongoing basis.
    • Develop and lead a community of practice for alumni platform administrators and be their point of contact for any queries regarding the alumni platform.
  • Contract management
    • Work closely with the alumni platform technical provider to ensure the platform is always fully functional and any issues are reported and dealt with in a timely manner.
    • Manage the contract with the platform provider to ensure they meet all of their commitments.
  • Content management
    • Work closely with the marketing manager to co-ordinate messaging across the alumni platform, direct marketing and social media.
    • Develop content for the alumni platform and be responsible for editing content across the platform to ensure consistency and professionalism.
    • Develop a content plan for the alumni platform and work with content producers to see this delivered.
  • Reporting
    • Be responsible for regular reporting on the alumni platform, utilising the platforms integrated reporting functionality and other available analytics.
    • Have full visibility and knowledge of alumni analytics ahead of weekly progress team meetings (via Google analytics).

    • Experience of managing and developing an online community
    • Experience of creating online content for digital audiences and an understanding and knowledge of what makes engaging content
    • Experience of managing suppliers
    • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of project management
