We are currently seeking a Securities Financing Trader – Analyst to join our growing Capital Markets and Credit Investment team in London, United Kingdom. This is an exciting opportunity to join a new and growing team at one of Canada’s largest asset managers. THE OPPORTUNITY
Based in London, United Kingdom and reporting into the Senior Managing Director, DTI in London, the Securities Financing Trader Analyst (SFTA) sits inside the Derivatives, Trading and Index portfolio management team. The SFTA is responsible for the maximization of revenue of wholly owned assets using derivatives and alternative securities financing channels. The role requires securities financing experience and ideally with a leading lending agent or buyside organization. In addition, travel and working non-standard in office hours flexibility is mandatory.
This role consists of rigorous screening of securities lending data, swap markets, understanding local securities lending laws and derivative data analysis of single stock companies to identify high quality candidates for financing. In addition, the SFTA executes all trades and monitors the life cycle of trades, recalls, re-rates and movement from alternative execution strategies end to end.
DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Capital Markets and Credit Investment Group manages a portfolio of fixed income, equity and absolute return investments representing approximately C$150 billion utilizing both index and active management strategies. The Group invests in Canada, the U.S. and internationally in both the developed and emerging markets. Assets are managed using both internal management and external managers. The Group uses a diverse mix of financial instruments including bonds, equities and derivatives. In addition, the Group is a leader in Responsible Investing actively integrating environmental, social and governance factors into our investment analysis and decision-making.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum of 3 years securities lending and financing experience with an agent lending desk/buyside organization.
- Exposure/good standing active relationships with the securities borrowing community.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to originate and structure solutions with keen attention to detail.
- Exposure to financing cross asset both securities financing transactions (SFTs) and total return swaps (TRS).
- Maintain relationships with borrowers and lenders to optimize securities financing performance.
- Strong legal understanding of securities lending agency agreements, regulatory frameworks, indemnification and collateral schedules.
- Ability to work flexible hours to match North America, Asia and European time zones.
- Ability to translate and articulate securities finance market thoughts and ideas to a larger audience including colleagues, junior management, and clients.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
- Under the supervision of the SMD, DTI, the SFTA identifies, analyzes, values and recommends trade opportunities using DTI’s robust decision-making framework.
- Accountable for ensuring that investment policies and guidelines and portfolio risk parameters are followed.
- Performs in-depth analysis and builds and maintains pricing models and database.
- Responsible for annual revenue targets and day-to-day zero errors.
- Responds to corporate actions, daily cash management and reconciliation of equity and financing resets, etc.
- Liaises with the Victoria, BC trading desk on appropriate execution strategies and trading opportunities.
- Monitors, analyzes and provides attribution analysis on portfolio performance to the SMD, DTI.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Head of Trading.
