About the Studio Assistant role
The Studio Assistant position is ideal for those starting their careers in a studio environment. As a friendly, organised, and energetic member of the team, you will support staff, artists and visitors who use the BCB Studio. You will work closely with the Studio Officer in the heart of Stoke‑on‑Trent, ensuring the studio remains a clean, safe, and welcoming space for all. You are not required to have extensive experience – we expect eagerness to learn, a willingness to ask for help, and openness to training and development. You will also be a good communicator, pay close attention to detail, and take pride in keeping the studio working well for everyone. We will provide an induction and ongoing training to give you the skills needed to complete these tasks.
Responsibilities
- Open the studio, switch on lights and heaters, and secure the space for visitors.
- Clean specified sections of the studio floor.
- Mix batches of slips or glazes.
- Recycle clay.
- Assist Associate Artists with workshop set‑ups.
- Complete a stock‑take of clay and allocate used material to individual projects on the monitoring spreadsheet.
- Unload the kiln and prepare project work for delivery to participants.
- Assist with cleaning up after a session.
- Meet with the Studio Officer to discuss studio improvements and personal development.
- Lock up the studio at the end of the day, ensuring heating, lights, and electrics are turned off.

- Reports to: Studio Officer
- Salary: £12,267 per annum for 0.5 FTE (equivalent to £24,534 per annum full time)
- Contract: Permanent
- Location: BCB Studio, 118 & 124 Church Street, Stoke on Trent, ST4 1BU
- Closing date: 10 am, Monday 29 June 2026
- Annual leave: 35 days per annum pro‑rated (including public holidays)
- Probationary period: six months
- Notice: two months in writing
