Role Title: PR Manager
Department: Communications
Salary: £35,000 - £39,000
Location: Paddle UK Offices at National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham/hybrid working as agreed. Full time (37 hours) Monday - Friday with flexibility required for evening, weekend, event based and on-call working where needed.
Reports to: Head of Communications
Paddling has a powerful story to tell.
Paddle UK is looking for a creative, curious and confident PR Manager to help tell the stories of paddling, our communities and the places people paddle.
This role will help Paddle UK tell that story more confidently and consistently - raising the profile of paddling, supporting our campaigns, strengthening our reputation and helping more people understand the value of our work.
You will bring to life the people, places and purpose behind paddlesport - from environmental custodianship and access to water, to recreation, safety, participation, membership, events, community impact and the inspirational stories that come from performance sport.
Reporting to the Head of Communications, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of proactive PR activity across Paddle UK. You will find stories, shape messages, build media relationships, support campaigns, manage enquiries and help to develop a proactive, joined-up PR function.
We are looking for someone who understands traditional PR and media relations as well as digital trends and audience behaviour to social platforms, creator-led content and the changing ways people discover, engage with and share stories.
Key Responsibilities
-
Campaign communications: Plan and deliver PR activity across recreational paddling, participation, access and environment, safety, membership, community engagement, performance sport, events and wider organisational priorities.
-
Content creation: Produce, commission and edit high-quality content, including press releases, statements, web/news copy, blogs, newsletters, briefings, Q&As, case studies and digital campaign materials.
-
Audience-first communications: Translate organisational priorities into clear, engaging and credible communications.
-
Digital and channel integration: Work with digital, marketing and content colleagues to ensure PR activity is joined up across channels and shaped around how audiences search, watch, read, engage with and share content.
-
Evaluation: Monitor, evaluate and report on PR and communications activity, sharing insight and recommendations to improve future delivery.
Why Join Us?
This is an opportunity to help shape how Paddle UK tells its story at an important time for paddling, outdoor recreation and blue spaces.
You will have the chance to tell stories that connect people to nature, sport, community, wellbeing, adventure and environmental custodianship. You will work across access, environment, safety, participation, membership, recreation and community impact, bringing fresh thinking to how we use PR, media, digital content, creators, social platforms and audience insight.
About You
We are looking for a creative, organised and collaborative communicator who combines good judgement with pace, curiosity and strong storytelling.
You’ll know how to find the angle in a story and shape it for different audiences. You’ll be just as comfortable writing a press release or media briefing as you are thinking about how a story could work across social, digital or owned channels.
You’ll understand that PR no longer sits in one lane. Stories move through journalists, search, social platforms, creators, communities, partners and people. You’ll be interested in how that landscape is changing and keen to bring fresh thinking into the team.
You’ll be organised, collaborative and calm under pressure, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines without losing sight of what matters.
You’ll bring sound judgement, especially when handling sensitive topics, reputational issues or fast-moving situations and curiosity, judgement, strong writing, media confidence and the ability to bring stories to life.
