Paddle UK is seeking an organised, diligent, and proactive individual to join our Competition and Events team as an Event Safety Officer. In this role, your primary focus will be to support volunteers and the wider paddling community in organising safe domestic competitions and events, ensuring that vital safety standards, risk assessment audits, and data management frameworks are robustly maintained.
This position acts as a central hub for event safety administration, requiring a collaborative individual who can balance data capture and technical compliance with empathetic, patient communication when supporting event organisers and volunteers on the ground.
Key Responsibilities
First Point of Contact: Act as the primary contact for inquiries, providing critical assistance and advice to nominated Safety Officers and discipline committees.
System Management: Administer, process, and approve affiliated events within the Paddle UK Event Recognition System to verify they meet safety standards.
Safety Administration: Manage accurate event safety record-keeping, data capture, and incident report triage.
Auditing & Risk Assessments: Conduct regular sampling and auditing of event risk assessments and safety plans.
Resource Development: Support the creation and distribution of event guidance, toolkits, and training materials for volunteers.
Continuous Improvement: Review event safety reports and incident data to identify trends and develop a 'lessons learned' framework.
Team Support: Collaborate across internal departments and provide general administrative support to deliver wider team objectives.
Why Join Us?
This is an exceptional opportunity for an administrative or sports operations professional looking to play a protective role in the infrastructure of a national governing body. You will join a team that values:
Meaningful Change: A culture focused on continuous improvement, ensuring that insights from near-misses and safety data are transformed into practical frameworks that keep participants safe.
Collaborative Success: Strong integration across internal teams and volunteer networks, working collectively to build shared interests and positive safety environments.
Strategic Impact: The opportunity to directly influence the quality and safety compliance of our domestic event calendar, ensuring every paddler can participate with confidence.
About You
You don’t need to be a health and safety expert to apply. We are looking for an approachable team player with a sharp eye for detail and strong communication skills. This role is perfect for you if you possess:
Organisational Skills: High proficiency in sorting, storing, and retrieving digital plans, reports, and spreadsheets.
Process-Driven Mindset: Comfort following step-by-step compliance checklists and workflows consistently.
Patient Communication: A patient, clear, and empathetic communication style, with the ability to explain simple processes to volunteers.
Background & Motivation: While experience with events, risk assessments, or safety documentation is a bonus, a commitment to learning is what matters most.
