Job Introduction
Panorama is the BBC’s multi-award-winning flagship current affairs series, making films for BBC One and iPlayer, with value for all news impact across multiple platforms and outlets, including socials. Panorama produces a broad portfolio of films including undercover investigations, social affairs, international affairs, news reactive fast turnarounds, access documentaries, and presenter-led films.
Main Responsibilities
- To create an impact plan for every film, working with the relevant Panorama Executive Producer. This will include TV, radio, news online and social.
- To line manage the broadcast journalist who will be editing and repurposing Panorama content, helping them to come up with new and engaging ways to package our content for different audiences on different platforms.
- To liaise, on behalf of the Panorama Senior team, with Commissioning Group as well as directly with news outlets and press and publicity teams both within the BBC and outside, as required.
- To have a clear understanding of the BBC’s Editorial Guidelines and how they are applied to our journalism.
- The ability to exercise impeccable editorial judgment.
- To write related stories for News Online.
- To be prepared to work flexibly when the TX requirements demand it, working calmly to tight deadlines.

We are looking for an experienced journalist who is able to demonstrate the following:
- Good working knowledge of social media and which types of content work best on which platforms and substantial experience of the creative and inventive use of social media and producing widely shared content and managing digital communities.
- Excellent writing skills, the ability to spot a news-line, awareness of key BBC and external relationships and ability to implement a publishing strategy that will allow Panorama to maximise its content on multiple platforms for greatest impact.
- Proficient knowledge of editing video and using FCPX and other relevant BBC systems.
- Significant line management experience with the ability to lead a team editorially and imaginatively and to manage performance.
- Some editing ability on FCPX and/or other BBC systems; a thorough knowledge of the BBC Editorial Guidelines and compliance policies, as well as the ability to exercise editorial judgment, sometimes under pressure, are essential.
