- Job purpose
Deliver activity programmes working directly with young people to develop innovative and inclusive activity sessions (curriculum‑linked) for children and young people with a wide range of emotional/behavioural, educational and physical needs.
Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and monitor activities to ensure smooth operation of services to meet the needs of children and young people.
- Encourage participation, maintain equipment and record/ evaluate sessions.
- Assist in development of the service, by planning, delivering and reviewing activity programmes.
- Support young people to take responsibility for their learning and actions.
- Create safe environment in accordance with health & safety policy and legislation.
- Support equality and diversity, safeguarding and reporting concerns as per Leeds City Council policies.
- Work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends; rotations, driving and towing equipment may be required.
- Participate in appraisal, training and development activities and contribute to overall ethos and aims of the service.
Qualifications
NVQ / VRQ Level 3 related to work with young people or equivalent relevant experience.
Skills Required
- Flexible approach to working across different locations and hours.
- Ability to establish constructive and purposeful relationships with young people.
- Strong facilitation of young people in design and development of sessions.
- Effective safeguarding of welfare and support for learning.
- Record and evaluation skills; respond to immediate health & safety issues.
- Recognise and challenge discriminations, prejudice and harassment.
- Deliver diverse activities ensuring participation for all.
- Knowledge Required
- NVQ / VRQ Level 3 and activity‑specific qualifications (e. g., climbing, cycling, art).
- Understanding of young people’s issues, safeguarding, local and national policies.
- Knowledge of health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection responsibilities.
Experience Required
- Experience in youth work / school environments.
- Experience engaging young people in group work and facilitating development.
- Experience planning, recording and evaluating activity sessions.
- Experience as an effective and reflective practitioner.
