The British Beekeepers Association (BBKA) acts as the umbrella organisation for around 270 clubs with 30,000 hobby beekeeping members. The charity is overseen by an elected Board of Trustees and has a small office team in Stoneleigh. We are seeking an experienced IT Systems Consultant for a short-term contracted engagement to assess our membership management requirements and recommend the most appropriate solution for our needs.

You will work with BBKA staff, Trustees and a small user group to understand our current membership system and requirements and evaluate the options available to migrate this to another off-the-shelf, configured, or bespoke platform. You will produce a clear, costed, options appraisal suitable for presentation to our trustee board. This is an initial short-term project engagement with the options appraisal expected to be delivered as soon as practically possible following appointment. We are keen to move quickly and would welcome candidates who can begin promptly. We also welcome interest from candidates who can work flexibly/part-time. There is potential for the right candidate to continue working with BBKA on a part-time consultancy basis beyond this initial project, subject to mutual agreement.

You will have:

  • Proven experience evaluating and recommending membership or association management systems (AMS)
  • Ability to conduct and document structured requirements gathering with non-technical staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the current market for membership platforms
  • Strong awareness of threats to data security and mitigation
  • Experience producing options appraisals or equivalent procurement documentation
  • Understanding of data migration considerations from legacy systems
  • Knowledge of integration requirements (payments, email, communications)
  • Strong written communication; reports must be clear to a non-technical trustee board

Desirable:

  • Experience working with membership charities, NFPs, or similar
  • Familiarity with GDPR obligations in the context of member data
  • Experience managing or advising on competitive tender

What we are looking for:

Reporting to the General Manager, you will be vendor-neutral, pragmatic, and able to work independently. You will default to proven solutions and be honest about trade-offs, including cost and risk.

Terms:

The engagement will be on a contracted basis; terms are negotiable and will be agreed with the successful candidate. Remuneration commensurate with experience.

To apply:

Please send your CV and a brief note of relevant experience by 16 June 2026. No agencies please.
