We are responsible for maintaining the safe use, storage and disposal of dangerous ammunition and explosives. We use our expert knowledge to protect others in the field of counter-terrorist bomb disposal. As an Ammunition Technician, you'll learn to inspect, repair, store and destroy ammunition ranging from rifles to guided weapons. You will work with Army Units and UK security services, deploying bomb disposal robots. Progression to a Bomb Disposal Operator (with extra pay) is possible. You may receive responsibility early in your career and could work in fields such as Weapons Technical Intelligence, Ammunition Stockpile Management and Improvised Explosives Device Disposal. Ammunition Technicians are highly sought after by the commercial energetics industry and by organisations running training in explosives and bomb disposal.

Training, Licences and Qualifications
Earn your Category B and C+E Driving Licences, plus specialist vehicle driving and bomb disposal qualifications. Complete a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Ordnance Munitions and Explosives and join the Institute of Explosives Engineers. GCSE requirements: 5x GCSE Grade A-C/9-4, or Scottish National 5 grade A-C, including Maths, English Language and either Physics, Science, or Integrated Science.
The Royal Logistic Corps are the Army's professional logisticians, keeping the Field Army marching, its helicopters flying, its vehicles moving and its tanks and guns firing. We enable deployment and supply wherever it operates, throughout the world. After world-leading technical training, you could help keep our troops and civilians safe.
Training Path and Career Progression
Next, you will complete a 29-week Class 2 Ammunition Technician course split between the Defence Academy in Shrivenham and the Defence EOD Munitions and Search Training Regiment in Kineton. You'll learn how to inspect, test, move, store and destroy every type of ammunition and explosive. You will also earn Cat B and C+E licenses at the Defence School of Transport in Leconfield.

- Level 4 Ordnance Munitions Explosive Technician Apprenticeship
- Driving Licences: Category B and C+E
- Potential study for MSc in Explosives Ordnance Engineering (part-time)
- Engineering Technician (Eng Tech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng)
Pay & Benefits
You'll earn £26,334 a year from the start of training, with increases as you progress. You can earn extra pay once you reach the rank of Sergeant and are qualified to conduct Bomb Disposal duties. Minimum and starting figures shown: £26,334 during training and £26,334 after basic trade training.
