Working as an integral part of our Estates team, you will take pride in looking after our gardens and landscapes, enhancing them for both visitors and wildlife. You need to be motivated and efficient, able to work independently and within a team. This is an aspirational role for the right person, with opportunities to cultivate your passion and specialities, contributing to local, national and international species conservation. Key Responsibilities- Maintaining formally planted areas including cottage garden, herb garden, vegetable garden and raised planters, including planting, weeding and mulching.
- Assisting with maintenance of planting and landscapes within our animal reserves.
- Undertaking a regular schedule of mowing, strimming and leaf blowing, to keep our public areas tidy and accessible and our animal reserves safe.
- Harvesting fruit, vegetables, herbs and forage for our restaurant, food outlets and animals.
- Helping with daily litter picks and emptying of bins on site, ensuring our park is clean and well presented.
- Maintaining plants in the reptile and tropical butterfly houses.
- Propagating new plants from seed and cuttings from our existing stock and caring for young and specimen plants in our off-show facilities.
- Construction and maintenance of hard landscaping features including post & rail fencing, raised beds, path edging, signage and animal enrichment features etc.
- Caring for the fruit trees in the orchard and other trees around the park and woodland.
- Supporting our native species projects through habitat conservation features such as dead hedging, tree & hedge planting, insect hibernacula and pond & waterway management.
- Ensuring sustainability is at the heart of what we do, encouraging recycling and re-use of materials, and thinking of innovative ways to share and encourage others to do the same.
- Helping look after the beehives and undertaking regular colony inspections (not-compulsory).
- Ensuring all pedestrian and vehicle paths and trackways are safe and clear.
- Willing to lead or assist with educational workshops for both adults and school groups, related to gardening, food production, habitat conservation and rural crafts.
- Maintain, service and look after all tools, vehicles and equipment used. Experience with ride-on mowers, brushcutters, tractors, dumpers, diggers and telehandlers would be desirable but not essential if willing to learn.
- Any other tasks to assist different teams including our animal rangers, catering, retail and marketing staff.
- Able to be flexible to assist with tasks supporting events outside of normal working hours including evenings and weekends on occasion.
