We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic Kennel Technician to support the day-to-day operation of our busy 5-star rated commercial kennels. You will work with dogs of all breeds and temperaments, maintain high standards of animal welfare, and provide excellent customer service. Experience in a commercially run kennel environment, animal husbandry duties, exercise routines, accurate record keeping and professional customer communication is essential.
The Essential Skills We Are Looking For:
- Driving licence
- Level 3 or above in a recognised animal care qualification
- At least 2 years employed experience working in a commercially run kennel environment
- Experience working in a position that included some lone working
- Experience communicating with customers in a variety of situations for a commercially run business
- Accurate and timely record keeping
- Canine behaviour
- Animal welfare and husbandry
- Knowledge of how to maintain a kennel and grooming salon
- Excellent communication skills
- Information communication technology and learning
- Able to work flexibly to attend occasional college events
- Able to be resilient when addressing challenging behaviours and promoting appropriate attitudes
- Knowledge of Child Protection Issues
- Able to form & maintain appropriate relationships & personal boundaries with young people
- Willingness to undertake mandatory health and safety training
- Understanding of personal responsibility for health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace
- Personable, engaging, flexible and polite
- Energetic and able to manage conflicting priorities
- Motivation to work with children & young people
- Fit for the duties of the post
- DBS check carried out on appointment
The Desirable Skills We Are Looking For:
- First aid at work
- Canine first aid
- Experience working with a wide range of exotic animals (Reptiles, Birds, Primates, Small Mammals)
- Awareness of and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment
- Responds positively and effectively to challenging situations and change
- Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours and appropriate attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline
