Here at Call of the Wild Zoo we currently have a fantastic opportunity to join our keeper team, working primarily on our bird and LVI team as an experienced keeper. The ideal candidate for this position is an enthusiastic, highly motivated and reliable individual, someone who can work effectively by themselves as well as with other members of the mammal and wider keeper team.
The successful candidate will be working with a variety of different species, including but not limited to, hyacinth macaws, Victoria crowned pigeon, linnaeus’s two toed sloth, false gharial, and reticulated python. We will be looking to develop our collection to add more amphibian species in the near future.
Daily routines and tasks to be undertaken include daily husbandry tasks, enclosure maintenance, public experiences and educational talks. There may be times where you may need to help on other animal sections around the zoo.
An ideal candidate would have experience working within a zoo environment for at least 3 years and preferably have some experience working with category 1 animals. The candidate must have exceptional time keeping skills and be able to prioritise their daily routines. An attention for detail is crucial for this role as there is a lot of observations and record keeping that needs to be undertaken. The ability to do public educational talks and confidently speak to the public answering questions is also vital.
This is a physically demanding role that involves a lot of heavy lifting, bending and kneeling down, as well as other labour intensive tasks, so the ideal candidate must be physically fit and able to complete these tasks.
This position is full time, 5 days a week working 40 hours over the course of the week. The candidate will expect to work on a flexible rota including bank holidays and weekends. Starting salary for this role is £26,852. The successful candidate will be entitled to 28 days of annual leave over the year from January to December and holiday is to be taken out of school holidays (excluding summer holidays), but there are exemptions under management's discretion.
