British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for an ANALYTICAL SCIENTIST II in Southampton.

Key Objectives and Expectations:

  • Provide technical direction, execution and delivery of Advanced Analytical to support BAT’s New Categories.
  • Accountable for the development of tools, knowledge and data in analytical sciences across BAT’s New Categories.

Direct Impact:

  • Provide fast, reliable, accredited analytical data to support product innovation lifecycle and Tobacco Harm Reduction ambition.
  • Support Quality Growth with high quality robust analytical data for foundational product understanding, regulatory submissions, competitor analysis and patents.
  • Support Sustainable Future and Tobacco Harm Reduction with cutting edge analytical data for regulatory engagement and scientific communications.

Core Relationships:

  • Internal: All teams across Research & Science, New Categories Research & Development, US S&RD, Global Analytical teams.
  • External: Suppliers, CROs, academic and industry consultants.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Application of expert knowledge of routine analytical testing to execute planning, delivery and reporting within the Analytical team.
  • Input into the technical application of the Analytical team to develop and ensure fit-for-purpose analytical testing capabilities.
  • Expert knowledge of analytical method development, validation and routine deployment.
  • Initiate or lead interactions with cross-functional teams and external technical stakeholders.
  • Ensure timely, fit for purpose data generation meeting quality requirements.
  • Maintain clear ways of working and adherence to key processes.
  • Author and deliver Research & Science reports, internal and external publications and presentations.
  • Understand and apply responsibilities under the Environmental, Health & Safety policy.
  • Application of project management and planning.

Experience Required:

  • Thorough knowledge and hands-on application of a broad range of analytical instruments and techniques.
  • Extensive experience in running, maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instruments.
  • Experience and technical knowledge of running, calibrating and maintaining whole aerosol robots/smoking engines.
  • Knowledge of applying informatics tools to process and assess analytical data.
  • Experience of best practice of analytical approaches in a controlled quality assured environment.

Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required:

  • Extensive experience of leading high throughput routine analysis and data interpretation.
  • Experience of quality management systems and integration across different platforms.
  • Awareness of product design to enable appropriate analytical test methods.
  • Lead delivery of routine analytical approaches to support Quality Growth and Sustainable Future.
  • Engage senior stakeholders and develop analytical solutions.
  • Provide technical supervision/coaching to support the Advanced Analytical team.
  • Adhere to financial processes and controls.
  • Drive accountability and ensure project delivery.
  • Focus on timely delivery and lead by example.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required:

  • Relevant professional/academic achievement equivalent to 1st or 2nd Degree in Chemistry or related science.
  • Relevant society and/or professional body membership.
