The role: Tools & Equipment Technical Engineer
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tools & Equipment Technical Engineer to join Supply Chain within British Airways Engineering at London Heathrow. The Technical Engineer will provide specialist engineering technical support across all of our Tools & Equipment. This will include initial provisioning of new tools and equipment to support in service and introduction of new aircraft. You will be working closely with teams across the business, as well as aircraft, engine, and component manufacturers, suppliers, and service providers. Ensuring all tools and equipment meet business needs, comply with regulations, and remain safe to use.
What you’ll do:
- Responsible for the technical aspects of initial provisioning (including specification, identification, design, system setup etc.) of new tools and equipment required to support in service and the introduction of new aircraft.
- Investigation of tools and equipment related safety incidents and putting in place the necessary corrective measures to prevent reoccurrence.
- Review of tools and equipment service bulletins to ensure tools and equipment remain compliant with legislative, manufacturer and aircraft/engine/component manufacturer requirements (SAP Technical Document Review).
- Responsible for the continuous monitoring of tools and equipment reliability, servicing and maintenance to optimise availability and cost.
- Provision of technical support to the business, answering and addressing tools and equipment technical related queries, interpreting drawings and problem solving.
- Liaison with manufacturers and specialist companies for the design, manufacture and modification of equipment to meet regulatory, Health & Safety and business requirements.
- Keeping abreast of regulatory and Health & Safety requirements that have an impact on the tools and equipment used by the business and taking the necessary action to ensure continued compliance and safety.
- Keeping abreast, evaluation and research, of wider industry development of tools and equipment to ensure that as a company we remain knowledgeable and can consider new technology, uses and developments in our selection of new tools and equipment.
- Provision of equipment and tool related technical support for business initiative and projects.
- Responsible for the generation of suitable metrics to provide for oversight and management of processes (e.g. TDR tailback, Statutory Inspection and Planned Preventative Maintenance performance etc.).
- Development and maintenance of relevant work instructions and procedures.

Your experience:
- Ideally educated to degree level or equivalent in an engineering discipline.
- Educated to A level, HNC or equivalent in Maths and Physics.
- Ideally has completed an engineering apprenticeship.
- Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements pertaining to the supply and use of tools and equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of Engineering’s integrated processes and systems (e.g. SAP, AIR, TIPortal, eRA etc.).
- Good understanding of engineering processes and techniques.
- Proficient with standard desktop tools, Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint etc.
- LEAN, 6 Sigma, 5S, process and productivity improvement techniques.
- Understanding of Tools and Test Equipment equivalency.
