The role:

A Technical Engineer with strong understanding of electronics and basic programming concepts is sought, to become part of the Avionics & Flight Data team. This is a dynamic role in a design and operational support area where team working is encouraged. Current projects include: aircraft system updates to improve aircraft data connectivity and ground system software development to deliver insights to engineers; avionic upgrades to improve safety and reliability. Often operational support will take precedence, so an agile work attitude is required. The design work includes assessing International and UK regulations which could result in raising a business case and cross fleet embodiment in a short time. Review of operational aircraft data will be encouraged to complete root cause analysis of aircraft events. Sound Engineering judgement is expected as standard whilst interfacing at all levels in BA Engineering and within other BA departments. Contact with IAG Opco’s, Airframers, Regulators, Vendors and other airlines is part of the role which may result in work travel. Training will be provided but will be driven by the Engineer.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for reviews, evaluation and approval of technical documentation that ensures the organisation operates in a safe, reliable and cost-effective manner.
  • Supports efficient technical decision making across the team and leads technical discussions across departments, using expertise and considering the business effects.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical standards, policy and strategic direction including prioritising the impact of, and influencing, future legislation.
  • Develop and lead healthy OEM, MRO, internal customer & stakeholder relationships.
  • Acts as a consultant on technical and airworthiness matters on behalf of British Airways with internal and external suppliers, customers and regulatory bodies.
  • Responsible for delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes of commercial value to the business.
  • Hold and exercise CAA Part M, Part 145 and Part 21 technical engineer approvals as required by the role to support the business needs.
  • Maintains oversight of fleet reliability, supervising fleet technical performance and developing improvement plans to ensure performance targets are achieved.
  • Leading or supporting technical investigations in line with the corporate safety management manual.
  • Prioritising workload and taking appropriate action to maintain compliance with all appropriate company procedures, policies, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Reports, presents and communicates operational and business performance and significant events to senior stakeholders in a timely and effective manner.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Hands on aircraft/engine/product experience desirable.

Your experience:

  • Ability to hold CAA or BA company approvals (e.g. Part-21J Part-145 & Part-M) (Essential).
  • HNC / HND or equivalent in an Aerospace Engineering or related subject (Essential).
  • Recognised Aircraft Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent industry experience (Essential).
  • Knowledge of safety and quality management systems (Essential).
  • Knowledge of regulations including CAA Part M, Part 145 and Part 21. (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of at least one aircraft, engine, product type design, mechanical & electrical systems, structures, materials & supporting ground systems. (Desirable).
  • Knowledge of maintenance programmes, technical reliability and condition monitoring tools and processes. (Essential).
