The Role

Technical Accounting Manager - 12 month FTC. To take a lead role in understanding and analysing impact of new accounting standards, accounting issues and changes in accounting policies on the financial performance of British Airways.

What You’ll Do

  • Support the Financial Controller Group Reporting by performing technical research, analysis, and drafting technical papers on emerging accounting issues.
  • Review and explain actual corporate financial performance on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc basis.
  • Prepare the BA Group Annual Report and Accounts and related Board papers.
  • Lead key departmental output delivery with Group Financial Reporting Manager, including Annotated Pages and BA Group Annual Report.
  • Offer technical accounting advice to collaborators in BA to assist with corporate or departmental initiatives/projects.
  • Liaise with IAG to provide understanding of quarterly reporting.
  • Develop a broad understanding of financial aspects of the business and review statutory accounts for several centrally managed subsidiaries for technical and legal compliance.
  • Work within and promote the internal controls environment - implement control mechanisms, monitor, review, and continuously improve.
  • Lead the implementation of a new financial statement disclosure management system.
  • Act as the main liaison to internal and external auditors.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Group Financial Reporting Manager.
  • Undertake other ad hoc responsibilities as required.

Your Experience

  • Accounting qualification (ACA/ACCA/ACMA) or equivalent.
  • Strong accounting background from within audit or technical advisory team with experience in technical accounting, reporting, consolidation and financial analysis.
  • Experience of preparing technical accounting memos.
  • Proven experience of managing and working within a professional team adhering to challenging deadlines.
  • Strong accounting and reporting capability.
  • Extensive experience with IFRS and UK GAAP.
  • Systems experience desirable (SAP S4/HANA and Group Reporting, Workiva, Anaplan).
  • Previous experience in airlines/aviation is desirable but not essential.
