The role: NDT Technical Engineer. Join the British Airways Engineering NDT Department and you’ll work alongside some of the finest NDT professionals in the industry. If you are passionate about Non Destructive Testing (NDT) and have an ambition to take over the Responsible NDT Level III (RL3) Engineer position for British Airways Engineering, then the role of NDT Technical Engineer will be for you. The NDT Technical Engineer role will involve supporting the current RL3 Engineer thereby gaining the necessary experience, qualifications and capabilities required to perform the RL3 role. Proven experience and qualifications in the Aerospace NDT sector is essential.
The Responsible NDT Level III Engineer is designated by the maintenance organisation and responsible to the Accountable Manager, for the technical supervision of Non-Destructive Testing. British Airways operates 24/7 with various shift patterns to fit the operational day. This position has a Mon – Fri days shift pattern. Please note you must be able to acquire an airside pass.
What you’ll do:
- CAA Form 4 holder for British Airways Engineering and other Part 145 Organisations, as required.
- Responsible to the Accountable Manager (Director of Engineering) for the Qualification and Authorisation of the NDT personnel within the organisation(s) as per CAA CAP 747 GR No.23.
- Responsible for writing, maintaining and updating the company NDT Written practice that describes the employer’s requirements and methodology for controlling and coordinating the NDT personnel qualification and authorisation process.
- Hold and maintain Level 2 and 3 Qualification and Authorisations in any NDT discipline(s) as required by the business.
- Ensuring continuity of Engineers approval/ authorisation status.
- Developing training and qualification specifications as required by BS EN4179.
- Monitor Regulatory Legislation to ensure continued Company compliance.
- Develop Company procedures to reflect NDT activities in the appropriate disciplines.
- Company Signatory for the approval of NDT inspection instructions (Techniques) in appropriate discipline(s).
What you’ll bring to British Airways:
- Responsible for personally maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of Aircraft Components, Structures, Systems and NDT Technology.
- Liaise with equipment manufacturers to ensure continued effective operation and zero ‘failures to action’ due to equipment limitations, and to seek advancements in technology to improve efficiency and reliability of inspection equipment and applications.
- Responsible for leading and implementing change to create a culture of continuous improvement in a technical environment in order to increase unit performance and compliance.
- Liaise with Aircraft/Engine OEM regarding technical issues and new developments.
- Negotiate with OEM where alternate inspection methods may be available (acceptable means of compliance).
- Liaise with the Engineering Technical department to capture inspection issues and offer advice on all matters related to NDT.
- Write/Maintain technical inspection instructions and ensure continued compliance with OEM publications.
- Assist level 2/ Level 3 Engineers to develop effective solutions to inspection requirements in an efficient and timely manner.
- Review the company Maintenance Organisation Exposition(s), Production Organisation Expositions, Quality Standards Manual and NDT procedures and Technical Work Instructions on an annual basis.
- Delivery of training to NDT Engineers in new inspection techniques and equipment.
Your experience:
- Education to Level 4 (e.g. HNC, HND, FD) or equivalent experience.
- Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Significant expertise and experience at Level 2 in the main NDT methods used by the organisation.
- Must be able to demonstrate evidence of specific knowledge and broad experience appropriate to the organisations' scope of work.
- Understanding of the regulations applicable to maintenance and NDT in the Aerospace sector.
- NDT equipment evaluation and procurement.
- Hold, or ability to obtain a UK security clearance.
