The role: Flight Dispatch Operations Manager. An exciting opportunity to work at the heart of the airline within Integrated Operations Control as part of our Flight Dispatch team. With flights to over 200 destinations and up to 800 daily departures, no two days are the same and the role is key to ensure our Flight Dispatch department is able to respond to the challenges of that day and any longer term initiatives.
What you’ll do: This role provides day to day leadership of the Flight Dispatch operational team, ensuring consistent delivery and ensures a high performance culture. It plays a critical part in maintaining operational excellence and supports the Senior Manager Flight Dispatch in implementing strategic initiatives. The role ensures that Dispatchers and Duty Managers uphold BA’s technical, regulatory and safety standards.
What you’ll bring to British Airways: You’ll bring a strong blend of operational leadership, technical expertise, and the ability to inspire high performance across a safety‑critical environment. This includes:
- Strong people leadership skills, with proven experience coaching, mentoring and managing performance in an operational setting
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, able to engage confidently with Duty Managers, Dispatchers and senior collaborators across the business
- The ability to make sound, timely decisions under pressure while managing competing priorities in a 24/7 operation
- A deep understanding of Flight Dispatch systems, processes and regulatory requirements, ensuring full compliance with all technical, safety and legislative standards
- Strong analytical capability, using operational data to monitor performance, identify trends and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- A proactive, can‑do approach with the flexibility to adapt to disruption, support your team through change and champion smarter ways of working
- The ability to see the bigger picture, translating strategic priorities into clear operational direction for your team
Your experience: You’ll already be an experienced leader with a strong grounding in an Operational environment. We’re looking for someone who brings:
- Significant experience in operations management within a safety‑critical aviation environment, including operational decision‑making and regulatory compliance
- Proven ability to lead high‑performance teams, including coaching, development and performance management of operational colleagues
- Strong knowledge of aviation safety standards, regulatory frameworks and industry procedures
- Experience working with complex operational systems and using real‑time data to support decision‑making and performance monitoring
- A track record of driving operational improvements, embedding standards and influencing stakeholders across internal and external partners
