The Airport Duty Manager is accountable for the safe, compliant and punctual delivery of BA Euroflyer and BA Mainline ground operations at Gatwick Airport. As the senior operational leader on shift, the role provides clear leadership and sound judgement to keep the operation running smoothly day to day and leads confidently through disruption, with decisions taken having direct impact on the delivery of a premium customer experience, operational recovery and wider network performance.
What you’ll do:
- Own the on-the-day delivery of BA Euroflyer and BA Mainline ground operations at Gatwick, ensuring safe, compliant and punctual performance and a positive customer experience.
- Provide senior on-shift operational leadership across all shifts, setting clear priorities and direction for Airport Duty Officers and operational partners.
- Lead on-shift operational decision-making during routine operations and disruption, taking accountability for balancing safety, punctuality, customer experience and recovery to minimise impact on customers, crews and company assets.
- Hold accountability for supplier performance, driving delivery against agreed safety, compliance, punctuality and service standards.
- Maintain strong operational assurance and governance, driving adherence to operational, safety and regulatory requirements and using performance insight to lead continuous improvement.
- Act as a rotational functional lead for Operational Performance, Safety & Compliance, or Customer Experience, helping shape how the operation continues to improve.

Your experience:
- Significant experience leading and being accountable for delivery within a complex airport ground operation.
- Proven experience of providing clear on-shift operational direction, enabling effective delivery across teams and partners.
- Proven ability to make sound, risk-based decisions in live, time-critical environments.
- Demonstrated experience working with and influencing suppliers and stakeholders to maintain safe, compliant and punctual operations.
- Strong understanding of safety management, regulatory compliance (including dangerous goods), and operational assurance.
- Confident using data and insight to identify risks, trends and improvement opportunities.
- Strong communication skills, with the confidence to speak up and challenge constructively on standards and safety, influencing outcomes when it matters.
- Flexibility to work across shift patterns and during operationally critical periods.
- Hold a full manual driving licence and be eligible to hold a valid airside pass.
