A Career Without Limits B1 Licenced Aircraft Engineer – Gatwick Line MaintenanceThe RoleWe are looking for skilled B1 Licenced Aircraft Engineers to join our Line Maintenance team at London Gatwick.

Gatwick is a busy and varied operational environment, currently supporting both our Airbus A320 family and Boeing 777 fleets. Our team is responsible for keeping the operation moving, managing everything from day-to-day line maintenance and defect rectification through to aircraft casualties and scheduled maintenance activity.

It is also an exciting time to join the Gatwick team. In the coming years, our long-haul operation will transition from the B777 to new Boeing 787 aircraft powered by GEnx engines. This provides an excellent opportunity to join us now, build your experience and be part of the next generation of British Airways Engineering at Gatwick, with future opportunities to develop skills and approvals on the B787 and GEnx.

No two shifts are quite the same. You could be supporting the live flying programme, troubleshooting and rectifying a technical defect, recovering an aircraft casualty or completing planned maintenance activity.

Our core roster is a 2 days / 2 nights pattern, working 12-hour shifts, giving you a predictable working pattern alongside the variety of a 24/7 aircraft operation.

Just as importantly, you'll be joining a friendly, supportive and experienced team. We work closely together across Engineering and the wider operation, with a strong focus on safety, teamwork and getting the aircraft back into service.

What You Will DoCertify and carry out maintenance on our A320 family and B777 aircraft, in accordance with your licence, approvals and company proceduresSupport the day-to-day flying programme, ensuring aircraft are maintained safely, compliantly and efficientlyTroubleshoot and rectify technical defects in a fast-moving operational environmentSupport and manage aircraft casualties, working with colleagues and wider Engineering teams to return aircraft to serviceComplete scheduled and planned maintenance activity undertaken by the Gatwick Line Maintenance teamLead and supervise maintenance activity, providing technical guidance and support to colleaguesWork collaboratively with Operations, Maintrol, Planning and other Engineering teamsEnsure accurate completion of maintenance records and documentation using our digital systemsMaintain the highest standards of safety, compliance and engineering professionalismWhat You Will NeedAn unrestricted UK CAA Part-66 B1 Licence with an appropriate aircraft type ratingRecent aircraft certification experienceA UK Driving Licence or equivalentA practical, safety-focused approach and the ability to work effectively in a busy operational environmentStrong teamwork and communication skillsWe are also very keen to hear from dual-licensed B1/B2 engineers. If you hold both B1 and B2 privileges, your broader skills and experience would be particularly welcome within our Gatwick Line Maintenance operation.

Rewarding your expertise, every step of the wayAnnual Shift AllowanceReceive between £4,450 and £9,850 annually, depending on your shift pattern.

Generous Pension ContributionsYou can contribute up to 5% of your salary, and in return, BA will contribute up to 11%. On top of that, we'll add an extra 0.5% through our Smart Pension Credit, bringing the total potential contribution to 16.5% of your salary.

For example: You contribute £308 per month (5%), BA contributes £679 per month (11%), plus an additional £31 per month from Smart Pension Credit (0.5%). That's a total of £1,018 per month, or £12,216 per year going into your pension, helping you save more, faster.
