A career without limits. As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain. It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris. This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways, the sky is never the limit. British Airways operates a world-class fleet of Full Flight Simulators, Fixed Base Simulators, and advanced classroom training equipment that support the recurrent and conversion training of our flight crews. These devices are maintained by our highly skilled Simulator Engineering team, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.

We are seeking a talented and motivated Flight Simulator Engineer to join our Flight Operations Simulator Engineering team, based at our London Heathrow Maintenance Base, Technical Block A (TBA).

The role: As a Flight Simulator Engineer, you will play a vital role in supporting the operational availability, technical integrity, and continuous development of British Airways' simulator fleet. Working within a 24/7 shift operation, you will provide technical and operational support to a diverse range of training devices, helping to deliver an exceptional training experience for both British Airways and external customers. This is an exciting opportunity to work with advanced aviation technology while contributing directly to pilot training, operational safety, and the future capability of our simulation systems.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain and support British Airways' fleet of Full Flight and Fixed Base Simulators, ensuring the highest levels of operational serviceability.
  • Deliver technical and engineering support within a 24/7 shift environment to meet demanding training schedules.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance to maximise device reliability and availability.
  • Diagnose and rectify system defects, ensuring timely resolution in accordance with quality and operational requirements.
  • Integrate simulator hardware upgrades and implement basic software modifications to improve simulator fidelity and address equipment obsolescence.
  • Manage Qualification Test Guides (QTGs) and support regulatory qualification activities.
  • Provide engineering support and technical expertise to simulator operators and training personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with UK CAA and EASA regulatory requirements, including the Quality System requirements detailed within CS-FSTD(A).
  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment in full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company policies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance simulator performance, reliability, and future capability.
  • Act as Deputy to the Simulator Engineering Duty Team Leader when required.

What you’ll bring to British Airways: Success in this role requires a strong technical aptitude and a thorough understanding of complex systems and the interactions between hardware, software, and operational processes. You will be a proactive problem solver with a commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence. Working as part of a dedicated engineering team, you will help maintain simulator availability in excess of 99.5%, ensuring that training requirements are delivered efficiently while supporting ongoing improvements in reliability and training effectiveness.

Why Join Us? This is a unique opportunity to work at the forefront of aviation simulation technology, supporting a critical element of British Airways' training operation. You'll join a highly skilled engineering team, work with sophisticated systems, and play an important role in maintaining the standards that enable our pilots to train safely and effectively.

This position operates on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern, covering both day and night shifts.

What we offer: We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It’s one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary. From the day you join us, you’ll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You’ll also receive up to 30 discounted ‘Hotline’ airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family. At British Airways you’ll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress. We never stand still, and we don’t expect our people to either.
