The role: Aircraft Technician

An opportunity has arisen for Aircraft Technician working within the Operations team at British Airways Engineering Gatwick. The role requires the ability to carry out scheduled maintenance, inspection tasks and defect rectification tasks to required standards while working to the full scope of your company authorisation. The Technician role provides technical support to team and individuals to achieve these standards whilst ensuring a safe environment by demonstrating commitment to BAEG Health and Safety and good housekeeping procedures.

What you’ll do:

  • Maintain a safe working environment through adherence to quality, health and safety and housekeeping standards.
  • Sign off work on completion within the full scope of individual approval.
  • Under supervision, complete maintenance tasks as directed on aircraft or components on time.
  • Driving and operation of vehicles, including mechanical handling, lifting equipment and elevated work platforms, to the limit of permits held.
  • Ensure and support effective communications within the shift/team.
  • Maintain Technician authorisations on all types required.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

  • Good Engineering hand skills.
  • Good interpersonal and people skills.
  • PC literate, can work with engineering systems and document management systems.
  • Good analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work shifts.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces as required (fuel tanks).
  • Ability to hold a full airside pass.

Your experience:

  • Hold Mechanic Level 1 & 2 Approval.
  • Recognised Aircraft Maintenance Apprenticeship (Civil or Military) or Aeronautical Certificated Training.
  • OR CAA Pt66 A licence.
  • OR CAA Pt66 B modules 2, 6, 7, 8, 14 or 15.
  • OR HNC in Aeronautical Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Minimum of 3 years aircraft experience.
  • Ability to read, write and interpret engineering data (job cards and manuals).

Full‑time role operating on a seasonal work pattern, typically 47.5 hours per week in winter and 16 hours per month in summer. The salary remains consistent throughout the year, regardless of seasonal hours.
