Gatwick Ground Services (GGS) provide airport ground operations at London Gatwick and London City Airports. As a wholly owned British Airways subsidiary, we take great pride in delivering impeccable customer service and comprehensive training. We are proud to deliver the highest standard of ground handling to British Airways and our other airline partners.

The purpose of this role is to coordinate all ground services, ensuring the punctual and safe departure of customer aircraft, including the embarkation/disembarkation of passengers, whilst observing and ensuring that all GGS' operating procedures and Health and Safety regulations are adhered to. Health and safety policies, customer service awareness, and operational excellence will also play a key part in this role.

What you'll do:

  • Be responsible for, lead and assist in all activities at the embarking/disembarking gate.
  • Complete the Loading Instruction/Report and Loadsheet, ensuring the correct data obtained from the customer airline is used.
  • Present the loadsheet in good time to the crew and ensure that a signed copy is retained.
  • Ensure all passengers checked in are accounted for and all deadload (baggage, cargo and mail) is loaded as per Loading Instruction.
  • Act as the Authorising Agent in relation to AAA procedures and ensure additional security checks have been completed when required.
  • Monitor, co-ordinate and record the timing of all activities during the turnaround of the aircraft.
  • Position the airbridge (jetway) in a safe manner as per the operating instructions.
  • Deliver professional, customer-focused front of house service in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Ensure that all regulatory paperwork and records are completed fully and accurately.
  • Work in a safe and effective manner, ensuring no risk to yourself or others.
  • Implement appropriate emergency procedures as required and report all safety and security risks promptly.
  • Forge professional and effective working relationships with team members, other GGS departments, supervisors, airline representatives, crew, and their customers.
  • Share knowledge and experience with colleagues to ensure continuous improvement in customer service.
  • Demonstrate a high standard of appearance and timekeeping.
  • Complete any related tasks allocated by the Airside Officer or OCC Duty Manager.

What you'll bring to Gatwick Ground Services:

  • Good communication and influencing skills, both verbal and written.

Your experience:

  • Proven experience in either Aviation, Ground Handling or similar industry.
  • Good working knowledge of Aviation Operations.
  • Ideally 3 years aviation experience.
  • Excellent written and spoken English.
  • Educated to A-level or local equivalent.
  • Must be able to obtain and retain a full airside pass including a satisfactory criminal record check.
  • Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Full UK manual clean driving license and ability to pass the airside driving test.

  • Salary £30,427.60 (£15.60ph) increasing to £34,587.26 (£17.74ph) after 6 months probation, plus £2,405.40 additional annual shift pay.
  • Overtime paid at time and a half during the week, and double time at weekends and Bank Holidays.
  • Shift pattern is currently 5 on 4 off with a mixture of early, mid and late start times.
