Overview
Operations Manager (Streets) – Bristol Waste Company
Salary: £53,283.21 per annum
Hours: 40 per week, Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day (start times vary by business need)
Location: Hartcliffe, Bristol, and all other depots that manage street cleansing (Days Road, Eastville, Sea Mills, Lewins Mead)

Purpose of the Role
To manage and monitor the operation of Street cleaning, Bulky collections and Fly Tip, ensuring compliance with all legislation, regulations, and financial/budgetary parameters. The post holder will ensure operations meet service goals and key measures detailed within the Waste Services Agreement and align with customer expectations. The role requires challenging existing practices to improve customer service while seeking value for money and long-term economic benefits to the business.
Key Responsibilities
- As a key member of the operations and leadership team, ensure talent management across waste and recycling operations and effective use of resources to achieve key performance targets.
- Ensure management software systems are administered and operated to provide timely and accurate management information.
- Provide management support to team members to ensure robust procedures and delivery of high-quality, value-for-money services.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement through a motivated workforce that reflects the company’s vision and values.
- Develop opportunities to improve site effectiveness, including streets fleet utilisation with vehicle tracking, scheduling and routing software.
- Build internal and external relationships (customers, suppliers, employees, and Bristol City Council) to deliver a great customer experience.
- Implement systems to monitor and track customer feedback and queries, ensuring timely resolution and service improvement where needed.
- Ensure all services comply with Health & Safety, disposal/handling/transportation legislation, codes of practice, and environmental regulations.
- Deliver the objectives and vision of the company and maintain consistent communications across the organisation.
- Prepare annual budgets and ensure services are delivered within budget and financial targets are met.
Essential Requirements for the Role
- Five years’ management experience in a senior position
- Strong leadership skills and business acumen
- Experience of employee engagement and change management programmes
- Proven experience in delivering services and achieving key results
- Full UK driving licence
- Flexibility to suit the needs of the business
