Purpose of the role
The Operations Controller will oversee the tracking and communication with recycling and refuse collection crews. The Operations Controller will be responsible for monitoring performance throughout the day to ensure the smooth running and completion of all daily operational work. A key element of the role will be clear communication between the Operational Controller and the Operational Managers of any daily issues, with the aim to resolve them as a team.
Key Responsibilities
- To monitor and support the planning of staffing levels so that adequate cover is always maintained, considering absences and busy periods.
- Allocation of resource and planning for future collections.
- To support managers in ensuring adequate vehicle provision, resolving truck breakdowns and allocation of spares.
- To monitor the service, provide real-time insights to the management team, highlighting areas of concern, and take relevant actions to ensure daily performance completion targets are achieved.
- To deal with day-to-day service enquires and activities as required providing support to the remote operational supervisory team.
- To receive, log and file Driver\'s Hours paperwork and monitor tachograph performance in the management system. Highlighting compliance concerns to managers.
- To work with and engage positively with the immediate team, BWC colleagues, the City Council as well as other partners and community groups.
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Confident when relaying instructions and when dealing with difficult conversations.
- Good written skills with the ability to compose letters and reports.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Ability to operate and navigate waste management and fleet software systems.
- Ability to work in a large team environment.
- Able to use word processing systems and spreadsheets.
