The Role

To lead and deliver intentional, sustainable commercial growth across the business through strategic sales leadership, market development, and high‑performance customer acquisition. This role shapes and executes the commercial strategy, drives revenue targets, and strengthens the organisation’s position within competitive markets. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Commercial Sales influences organisational priorities to ensure commercial ambition is embedded across all functions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the commercial sales strategy to deliver targeted revenue and margin growth across all business lines.
  • Lead, inspire, and performance‑manage the commercial sales team to achieve ambitious sales targets and maintain a high‑performance culture.
  • Identify new markets, partnerships, and commercial opportunities that expand the organisation’s footprint and customer base.
  • Oversee the full sales pipeline; forecasting, tendering, bidding, negotiations, and contract closure, ensuring rigour and consistency.
  • Build strong, long‑term relationships with key clients, partners, and stakeholders to support sustainable growth and retention.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Finance, Marketing, and People teams to ensure commercial goals align with business priorities.
  • Provide data‑driven insights to the SLT and Board, including performance dashboards, risk analysis, and growth recommendations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong leadership and people management, with the ability to build high‑performing teams.
  • Financial and commercial acumen, including forecasting, pricing, and margin analysis.
  • Deep understanding of B2B sales methodologies, account management, and pipeline development.
  • Knowledge of competitive landscape analysis, market segmentation, and growth modelling.
  • Understanding of tendering and procurement processes within public and private sectors.
  • Awareness of commercial compliance, risk management, and contractual governance.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems and data‑driven sales performance reporting.
  • Proven track record of delivering significant year‑on‑year commercial growth in a senior sales leadership role.
  • Leading cross‑functional teams to deliver large or complex bids, proposals, or commercial programmes.
  • Managing senior‑level client relationships and negotiating high‑value contracts.
  • Designing and implementing sales strategies that result in measurable business expansion.
  • Must hold a full UK driving licence.
