The Role
To provide flexible LGV driving and operational support across Bristol Waste Company services and locations.
The post holder will safely drive and operate a range of vehicles and associated equipment, support route completion, load, transport and unload waste and recycling materials, and assist with cleansing and other operational tasks in line with service requirements, company procedures, training, licence entitlement and all relevant legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive and operate vehicles and associated equipment safely and legally, including LGV, RCV, commercial and other operational vehicles, in line with company procedures, training, licence entitlement and service requirements.
- Work flexibly across Bristol Waste Company services, including refuse, recycling, garden waste, commercial, street cleansing and other operational areas where appropriate training has been provided.
- Provide operational cover across locations including Avonmouth, Albert Road, Hartcliffe and other Bristol Waste Company sites as required by the needs of the service.
- Ensure routes, collections, cleansing activities and allocated tasks are completed to the required standard, escalating any issues that may affect service delivery.
- Load, transport, unload and tip waste and recycling materials only at designated and approved facilities, following company procedures, training and all health, safety and environmental requirements.
- Complete daily vehicle checks, defect reporting, paperwork and mobile IT updates accurately and promptly.
- Maintain vehicles, equipment and working areas in a clean, safe and presentable condition.
- Remain in regular contact with supervisors, controllers and office staff, responding positively to changes in route, task, location or service priority.
- Deal with colleagues, customers, residents, suppliers and other stakeholders in a polite, responsible and professional manner.
- Undertake training, instruction and familiarisation required to support flexible deployment across vehicles, equipment, services and sites.
- Comply with all Bristol Waste Company policies, reporting procedures, safe systems of work and Integrated Management System requirements.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties consistent with the role, skills, training and operational requirements.
- What We’re Looking For
- Must hold a valid Category C licence, Driver CPC and Digital Tachograph Card.
- Able to use mobile IT equipment, follow reporting procedures, complete daily paperwork and electronic records accurately.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors, controllers, colleagues, customers and members of the public.
- Understanding of safe and legal LGV driving, including Working Time requirements, tachograph rules, official break requirements and company procedures.
- Knowledge of daily vehicle checks, basic defect reporting and the importance of maintaining vehicle roadworthiness.
- Awareness of health, safety and environmental requirements when loading, transporting, unloading and tipping waste and recycling materials.
- Ability to understand route information, follow instructions and work in accordance with safe systems of work and the Integrated Management System.
- Experience of, or ability to undertake, physical outdoor work including moving bins, handling recycling containers and working in all weather conditions.
- Experience of completing daily vehicle checks and reporting defects accurately and promptly.
- Experience of working independently, using initiative and contributing effectively as part of a team.
