Job Description

We are now advertising for four rotating interns to join our current rotating intern group of four at Bristol Vet Specialists, starting on 5th January 2026.
We are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals, with at least 12 months of experience working in general practice in the UK, committed to practising the highest standards of veterinary medicine and patient care that would relish the opportunity to further their career, improve their knowledge base and technical skills.
This will be a 12-month position at our hospital, where you will spend time rotating through our specialist led services, learning on the job and having fun whilst doing it! These positions can be your first rung on the ladder to obtaining a residency, but they are also a great experience as a building platform for veterinary surgeons who see their future in general practice, research or pharmaceuticals.
Who are we? Bristol Vet Specialists (BVS) is a specialist led, referral only hospital, which is located on the outskirts of Bristol, near the M5. We offer a full complement of specialist led services, which include anaesthesia and analgesia, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery. Based at our brand-new state-of-the-art purpose-built hospital, with 11 canine consult rooms, a separate feline centre, MRI, CT, 5 theatres, ICU and an incredible team of referral nurses and support staff. The hospital is the only veterinary hospital in the Southwest to have a linear accelerator (https://cvs-referrals.com/referrals/referral-centres/-/bristol-vet-specialists/).
The internship programme
The rotating internship at BVS is a fixed one-year position. You will spend the majority of your year rotating through our departments on day shifts, under the guidance and supervision of our specialists, where you will be actively involved in cases and be an integral part of the team. There will be 1-in-8 night shifts (with recovery time after these) and 1-in-8 weekend shifts during the internship but during these, you will have the support of our wonderful patient care assistants, nurses, specialists in training and specialists, so you'll never be without support! During your year with us, you will have access to:

  • Weekly seminars delivered to you by our specialists and specialists in training
  • Weekly journal clubs run by our departments
  • Book clubs and morbidity and mortality rounds

You will also be assigned a mentor and clinical supervisor to provide guidance and support specific to you. We highly value the importance of looking after our employees' mental health and our internship leads (Emma Roberts and George Nye) are both qualified mental health first aiders.
Salary and benefits
In addition to a £32,000 per annum salary, you will have 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, £1,000 CPD allowance over a period of 5-days, RCVS and VDS membership.
Closing date
The closing date for applications is Monday 4th August and interviews are expected to take place on Tuesday 12th August. For informal enquiries, please email: referrals@bristolvetspecialists.co.uk for the attention of George Nye and Emma Roberts.
CVS is committed to being a fully inclusive place to work where all our colleagues are encouraged and supported to be themselves, where difference is celebrated and where everyone feels able to deliver their best.
