Why volunteer with St Peter’s? St Peter’s Hospice is a local charity which provides care and support for those living with a progressive life‑limiting illness and their families in the Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and North Somerset area, both at the Hospice and in the community. Our charity shops (including eBay and Depop) raise around £3,000,000 per year which goes directly towards providing vital patient care and support services. As a retail shop volunteer you will play an important part in raising this amount.

What will my role include? This is a shop floor opportunity in our Gloucester Road shop. You will be volunteering as part of a fun team helping to:

  • Prepare goods for sale; sorting through new donations and organising into categories.
  • Steam and hang garments to a high standard ready for the shop floor.
  • Interact with customers in store and accept donations from the public.
  • Identify items that may be suited to our eBay shop at Avonmouth.
  • Support on the shop floor where required.

What qualities do I need?

  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to work independently when required.
  • Good listening and communication skills.
  • Prepared to handle a variety of goods in a busy working environment.
  • Friendly and polite when interacting with other volunteers, staff and customers.
  • Hardworking with a positive attitude.
  • Interest in fashion or books can be utilised in store.
  • Attention to detail and thoroughness.

How much time do I need to commit? We would ideally be looking for 4 hours per week, but the role can be flexible around your lectures and other commitments. We can work together to find a time that best fits your lifestyle.

What benefits are offered?

  • 20% volunteer discount in our shops.
  • Experience working in a team and independently within a charity retail setting, building links with your local Bristol community.
  • Satisfaction of knowing that the time you give enables hospice teams to continue caring for patients and families.
  • Chance to build upon a passion for antiques, fashion, books, and music.
  • St Peter’s Hospice is a well established and respected charity; it can boost a CV when applying for jobs in the area.
