This post is for someone to help with any aspects of the research and writing for Wildlife and Habitats of the Trust, especially regarding domestic gardens. For example:

  • Repairing and maintaining animal homes
  • Constructing new ones
  • Research improving conditions and planting in gardens for wildlife
  • Writing guides for the public on how to make bird and bat boxes, bug hotels, etc.
  • Writing guides for the public on how to attract wildlife to their garden
  • Writing guides for the public on how to create wildlife-friendly corners & conditions

The manager can also devise and give their own workshops in the garden for young people. Research and make connections with organisations who may want to work with us. The manager will research and write guides chosen from a list supplied but may also make suggestions of other subjects. The finished material will be stored in the Trust archives and disseminated to the public. The manager will be given authorial credit. The material may be used in future publications by the Trust.

This is a voluntary role for a registered charity. Volunteering will improve your skills and CV. When recruiting staff, employers often favour applicants who have done volunteering work. On conclusion, you can list the Trust as one of your references for job applications.

Charity for the advancement of education in Horticulture and Conservation. This includes: placements for young adults with learning difficulties; help for the young unemployed; wildlife audits; workshops; community open days; group visitors; school visits; visits under residents of nursing homes. We also have our own programme of residential placements (4 to 8 weeks) for students from across the E.U. We also sometimes need stewards to assist at our annual private viewing and various open days.

The garden is a series of "rooms" which includes: Herbarium; Vegetables; Orchard; Wetland; Waterfalls; Beach; Pond; Cottage Garden; Exotics; Collections: Dianthus; Fuchsias; Acers; Conifers; Exotics; Alpines; specimen trees; meditation areas; Statues of deities & mythological animals; large wooden arches; pergolas; 23 seating areas; walls and paths; and emergent woodland area.

No previous experience necessary. Liquid refreshments provided. All tools and gloves etc. are provided. Volunteers can come along to help from as little as 2 hours a week. Your help working with the founder Stephen Cox (and sometimes our E.U. volunteers) will be invaluable to assist us in maintaining the garden, develop new projects, and enable it to continue to be available for the benefit of others. There is also a fully equipped gym for use by volunteers.
