Overview

Job Description – Help and support gardening team to maintain wildlife friendly community gardens throughout the year with a range of seasonal tasks.

Jobs include:

  • Mulch making
  • Sweeping leaves
  • Making compost
  • Building bug habitats
  • Creating habitat for wildlife
  • Building bee habitats
  • Weeding – to protect space of other plants or resist dominant species
  • Watering and water saving
  • Planting a variety of plants from seeds, bulbs, wildflowers, perennial plants, shrubs and trees. potting on baby plants.
  • Pruning cutting back a wide variety of shrubs
  • Deadheading
  • Managing size of plants/ keeping balance and light in garden
  • Tidying and cutting back plants in flowerbeds
  • Maintaining wildflower meadows
  • Taking care of fruit trees
  • Pruning fruit trees
  • Transplanting and moving plants
  • Dividing plants
  • Improving soil health
  • Building and maintaining ponds and water features
  • Improving health of poorly plants

Green Cotham

Green Cotham is a community gardening project run by Cotham Parish Church in Partnership with High Kingsdown and communities in Cotham, Bristol. Our aim is to run sessions based on supporting biodiversity through urban greening, planting, growing and maintenance work. Come and learn in a friendly, supportive environment about gardening and how to support wildlife in the city.

Sessions run on Wednesday afternoons 2pm – 4pm. We meet in the Cotham Parish Church carpark from 1.55pm and we generally leave to walk to site at around 2.05pm.

Sessions are free, and all tools and gloves are provided, along with refreshments.

Sessions will start with a full briefing of the days activities.

We have a maximum of 12 spaces each week.
