We are Bristol Myers Squibb. Join our UK-based Tax Centre of Expertise in Europe (Europe Tax CoE) as a Senior Manager, Direct Tax (Germany). Your work will primarily focus on BMS Germany.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include ensuring accurate tax filings, managing tax risks and audit proceedings, meeting internal and jurisdictional deadlines, and efficiently managing resources to meet budget targets. You will also support US tax reporting, global tax initiatives, transfer pricing and align global tax requirements with local regulations.

Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for direct tax compliance and US tax reporting for Germany and a small allocation of other markets in the Europe region.
- Plan and execute local tax compliance requirements, including preparation and review of tax returns by managing internal and external resources.
- Act as the German Tax Compliance Management System Officer, managing a risk register and reporting to the FD and General Manager quarterly.
- Manage tax audits with local finance teams and corporate tax staff; occasional travel to Munich may be required.
- Support collating information for transfer pricing documentation in accordance with local rules.
- Provide tax support for local business on operational issues.
- Advise the head of finance in local markets and educate business partners on tax legislation changes.
- Prepare US GAAP provision, projection and contingency reporting.
- Maintain a high standard of internal control that complies with Sarbanes-Oxley and local requirements.
- Liaise with tax, finance, customs, treasury, legal, HR, and external advisers to ensure compliance and assess risks.
- Leverage technology to create effective calculations for tax returns and provisions.
- Identify potential tax issues, perform research, and make recommendations to prevent or resolve issues.
- Pro-active team management to ensure proper staffing, training, development, and resource allocation.
- Manage external advisor budget and ensure planning and transparency of spend.
- Support a high-performance operating culture focused on customers, teamwork, external focus and accountability.
- Collaborate with team members, delegating and coaching junior staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- Relevant degree or chartered tax advisor qualification (local equivalents such as Steuerberater, Fachangestellte fuer Steuerrecht)
- Professional experience in a large corporate tax environment or equivalent is preferred
- Experience in global or regional teams
- Experience in managing and developing staff
Knowledge, Skills and Competences
- Business fluency in English and German is required
- Proficient in accounting provisions, accounting principles, audit and disclosure requirements of financial statements
- Understanding of US GAAP is an advantage
- Team player with leadership skills and ability to communicate with minimal supervision
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
- Experience managing multiple projects and priorities in a time-sensitive environment
