You’ll get the chance to grow and thrive through opportunities uncommon in scale and scope, alongside high-achieving teams.

Bristol Myers Squibb recognises the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees with the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.

What if the hardest analytical problem you've ever faced was actually the most important one you'll ever solve? Important in a 'this gets a life‑changing medicine to a patient faster' kind of way. That's the level of stakes we're working at every day in BMS's Chemical Process Development team and it's why we're looking for someone who genuinely loves the challenge.

This Role Is For You If...

  • You're the kind of scientist who gets genuinely excited when something doesn't work the way it should.
  • Who sees a tricky separation problem and thinks 'let me figure this out' rather than 'let me pass this along.'
  • Who reads about 2DLC or capillary electrophoresis not because you have to but because you actually find it fascinating.

The Role

As a Scientist in Analytical Development, you'll be embedded within Chemical Process Development (CPD) project teams, working shoulder-to-shoulder with organic chemists and chemical engineers on some of the most scientifically complex drug candidates in BMS's portfolio - spanning small molecules, ADCs, peptides, and oligonucleotides. This isn't a support role in the background. You'll be a core contributor, providing the analytical insights that directly shape route selection, process optimisation, and scale-up decisions. The data you generate, the methods you develop and the solutions you bring to the table will have a direct line to clinical outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing — and What It Really Means for You

  • Developing and validating fit-for-purpose analytical methods. You won't be handed a standard operating procedure and told to follow it. You'll be building the methodologies yourself - sharpening your technical toolkit on some of the most complex molecules in modern drug development.
  • Applying innovative separation techniques like 2DLC and SFC. You'll have the freedom and the resources to explore cutting‑edge analytical approaches - building expertise that's genuinely sought after across the entire pharmaceutical industry.
  • Implementing automation and improving continuous manufacturing monitoring. This is where analytical science meets the future. You'll be at the forefront of integrating automation, AI/ML, and data science into real pharmaceutical workflows - skills that will define the next generation of analytical scientists.
  • Transferring methods to support timely clinical API batch release. There's a direct thread between the method you develop and a patient receiving a clinical trial dose.
  • Collaborating across matrixed teams within CPD and broader Product Development. You'll build relationships across disciplines - chemistry, engineering, regulatory, manufacturing - giving you a breadth of perspective and a professional network that's genuinely rare.
  • Publishing and presenting your work externally. BMS actively encourages you to share your science with the wider world.

What You'll Gain

  • Technical depth AND breadth - You'll develop expertise across a diverse portfolio of modalities (small molecules, ADCs, peptides, oligonucleotides).
  • A clear growth path - BMS explicitly invests in your advancement, whether that's moving up the technical ladder as a specialist or stepping into an analytical leadership role on project teams.
  • Cutting‑edge tools and techniques - Access to automation, AI/ML capabilities, and advanced analytical technologies.
  • Visibility and recognition - Opportunities to publish, present, and be seen as a thought leader.
  • Work that echoes beyond the lab - Every method you develop, every process you optimise, every clinical batch you help release brings a drug candidate closer to the patients waiting for it.

What You'll Bring

  • A PhD or Master's degree in Analytical or Organic Chemistry (practical, hands‑on experience is key).
  • Solid experience with chromatographic and/or spectroscopic techniques.
  • An interest or working knowledge of data science, AI/ML, or programming applied to analytical chemistry.
  • Experience navigating matrixed, cross‑functional teams.
  • A genuine can‑do attitude - you adapt, you learn, you push forward even when the problem is stubborn.
  • An unwavering commitment to safety and the highest scientific standards.

The Kind of Place You'll Be Doing It

BMS's Chemical Process Development function is built around the belief that world‑class analytical science isn't a service function - it's a strategic differentiator. You'll be joining a team that actively partners across the organisation, that invests in its people's growth, and that genuinely celebrates scientific curiosity.

Ready to Bring Your Analytical Best to Work That Actually Matters?

If you've been waiting for a role that challenges you technically, rewards your curiosity, and connects your science to something truly meaningful — this is it.
