Bristol Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees with the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.
What if your tax expertise could do more than manage compliance — what if it could help change patients' lives? It might not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think about a tax role but at Bristol Myers Squibb, everything connects back to our purpose: transforming patients' lives through science. And the team that keeps our tax operations running with precision and integrity? They’re part of that story too.
We're looking for a Tax Manager to join our European Tax Centre of Excellence (COE) in Chester – a role where your technical skills meet real business influence and where the work you do every day genuinely matters.
Here’s What Your Role Will Actually Look Like
- You'll run the full direct tax cycle for your own markets – leading corporate income tax return preparation with local external advisers, applying genuine technical challenge to their work, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks.
- You'll gain hands‑on US GAAP experience – preparing and submitting US tax reporting including quarterly current and deferred tax provisions using TaxStream technology.
- You'll work across the full breadth of tax governance – managing UK‑specific requirements including Senior Accounting Officer (SAO), Tax Strategy publication, Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO), and the evolving world of Pillar Two.
- You'll be a genuine internal consultant – advising finance and business stakeholders on tax matters, explaining complex technical requirements in language they can act on, and building the kind of trusted relationships that make you indispensable.
- You'll shape how tax is done, not just do it – contributing to the COE's strategy around standardisation, automation, and continuous improvement.
- You'll stay ahead of legislative change – monitoring developments across your markets, analysing their impact, and proactively communicating what matters to the people who need to know.
What Do You Actually Gain From Joining This Team?
- Breadth that most tax roles simply don't offer. European direct tax, US GAAP reporting, transfer pricing exposure, Pillar Two, UK tax governance – all under one role, in one team.
- Access to leading external advisers. You won't be working in isolation. You'll collaborate with top‑tier advisory firms, learn from their expertise, and develop the ability to challenge them effectively.
- Real stakeholder visibility. You'll regularly engage with senior finance leaders and business partners globally.
- Flexible, hybrid working from our modern office in Chester.
- The BMS mission as your backdrop. When you're filing that return, managing that audit, or navigating a piece of new legislation — you're doing it in support of a company that is genuinely working to help patients with serious diseases.
You’ll Thrive In This Role If…
- You're a qualified accountant and/or chartered tax adviser (CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) with solid experience in tax accounting, tax provisioning, and statutory audit support.
- You've managed external advisers and you know how to review compliance deliverables with the right level of technical rigour.
- You communicate confidently – able to break down complex tax matters for finance colleagues and non‑tax stakeholders alike, without losing accuracy.
- You're genuinely interested in tax technology, process improvement, and automation.
- You're organised, ownership‑driven, and comfortable managing multiple markets and deadlines simultaneously.
- You're fluent in English – additional European languages are a bonus, but not a requirement.
Ready to Own It? If you're looking for a tax role where your expertise carries genuine weight and you'll take real responsibility for your portfolio – this is it.
Uniquely Interesting Work, Life‑changing Careers. With a single vision as inspiring as “Transforming patients’ lives through science™ ”, every BMS employee plays an integral role in work that goes far beyond ordinary.
