We’re recruiting for a hands-on engineering role ideal for Mechanical Fitters, Electrical Fitters, Technicians, Ex-Forces personnel or those from heavy industry who want to work closer to home and move into a long-term career in training. No teaching experience required – full Train-the-Trainer qualification provided. This is a practical, workshop-based role (around 80% hands-on) – not a classroom-only job. You’ll deliver training in a specialist environment focused on substation fitting, electrical systems and infrastructure, helping develop the next generation of engineers.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver hands-on training in mechanical and electrical fitting
- Work with switchgear, cabling, and substation equipment
- Teach safe working practices in line with industry standards
- Support learners through NVQ / Diploma / technical qualifications
- Assess competency and provide structured feedback
- Maintain training equipment and workshop spaces
- Ensure strict adherence to health & safety regulations
Required skills and experience
- Background as a Mechanical Fitter, Electrical Fitter, Technician or similar
- Experience in heavy industry, utilities, manufacturing, or ex-forces engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ hands-on experience
- City & Guilds Level 2 (or equivalent)
- Physically fit (role involves ladders, scaffolding and switchgear work)
- Full UK driving licence
Desirable (not essential – training provided)
- Experience in HV/LV or power distribution
- Previous training, coaching or mentoring experience
- Assessing or teaching qualifications (A1, D32/33, PTLLS etc.)
- Health & Safety qualifications (IOSH / NEBOSH)
