Meridian has an excellent opportunity for a proactive Health & Safety professional to join a business during an exciting and well‑established period of growth and transition. The role is central to strengthening health, safety, and compliance standards across the organisation, ensuring operations remain safe, legally compliant, and aligned with best practice. Working closely with managers and site teams, you will help embed a positive safety culture through audits, inspections, RAMS support, toolbox talks, and accreditation management, while playing a visible part in the company’s continued development.

Based: Epping, Essex with regular site visits across London

Salary up to £45,000 per annum. In addition to a competitive salary, the package includes an annual company performance bonus, company van, fuel card, mobile phone, and laptop.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Carry out regular site inspections and safety audits across operational projects and contracts, helping maintain high standards as the business continues to grow.
  • Provide practical support to Project Managers, Contract Managers, and Supervisors in the preparation and review of RAMS.
  • Visit sites to monitor compliance with company health & safety standards, legal obligations, and industry best practice.
  • Deliver engaging toolbox talks, safety briefings, and wider health & safety communications to operational teams.
  • Undertake internal audits, including site inspections, vehicle spot checks, and compliance reviews, with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Maintain and improve company health & safety policies, procedures, and management systems to support a scaling operation.
  • Support the management, renewal, and ongoing development of company accreditations and certifications.
  • Ensure office‑based health & safety requirements are consistently maintained across company locations.
  • Track and support the timely close‑out of corrective actions arising from audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
  • Assist with accident, incident, and near‑miss investigations, reporting, and follow‑up actions.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, training logs, and compliance documentation to support operational and audit requirements.
  • Monitor legislative developments and help update company procedures where needed.
  • Support external audits, client inspections, and accreditation assessments, acting as a trusted health & safety presence within the business.

Performance Metrics

  • Completion of planned site inspections and audit schedules.
  • Compliance with company health & safety procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Quality and effectiveness of RAMS support provided to operational teams.
  • Successful maintenance of company accreditations and certifications.
  • Closure of corrective actions within agreed timescales.

Qualifications & Competences

  • Essential: IOSH Managing Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate, NVQ in Health & Safety (or equivalent), a full UK driving licence, and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a Health & Safety role within construction.
  • Desirable: NEBOSH Construction Certificate, Internal Auditor qualification, M&E experience, ISO accreditation experience, and familiarity with H&S HQ and SimPro.
  • A strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and HSE requirements.
  • Proven experience in preparing and reviewing RAMS to support safe delivery across operational environments.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility across teams at all levels.
